Title: Idea
Post by: Deep-Jiffa on August 01, 2003, 08:30:40 pm
How about putting several new battle musics and some special ones?(like fighting the sa-matra, mycon special, star base fight...etc etc etc...)

The remixing people know that it will be little effort for us to enable this if they have music for special events, or multiple tracks for one event.
And in fact I expect this to happen for some cases.

their should defenatly be one for the sa-matra

I think there should be diffrent music for every race you fight and for special occasions. Not that the correct music is bad.

so in melee! would the music change depending on who your fighting, or would their be a special melee! music?

By the way, when you are going to do some really major changes you meant to do?

There are a lot of major changes. Starting with the introduction of SDL in the beginning of the project, we've had a new sound mixer, input system, and file i/o system.
If you're talking about gameplay changes, they're not going to be here before 1.0, and they'll probably not be made by the same people.

I just want comment about the "wish" to have own melee music for every race. Nice idea, but you know it's lots of work to make that many remixes. So when the other remixes are ready, we'll probably do few more melee remixes. Haven't talked with Riku recently, but yes, we have considered these melee remixes (among others). As Meep said, it might happen in some cases.

although u guys prolly get this a lot i have one big suggestion for the urquan masters: bigger fleets in melee. You should be able to have one of each ship in melee mode.

How about improving the graphics? For start the conversations with the alien races and then the entire game!!! Not that you don't do a great job but you are doing staying on music too long.

P.S I think you guys should add a key for changing fire mode. For example if you have 2 ion guns you can switch to shoot with 1 of them instead shooting all of them

If you only want to fire from one Ion Bolt gun, only put one into your ship config. There's your mode change. ^_^

No... actually mode change would be quite nice. Some ships are easy to kill with the 'fire everything we've got' tactic, but there are others (like the Dill-rat Avenger) that need some patience, and the only cannon that is of any use is the forward one (or the backward one) while the spread cannons are just waisting your battery.

I think that especially against cloaked ships the side cannons are very useful. You see your shots exploding at your side, then you'll know that (e.g) the Avenger is on top of you.
The only reason i see for the mode change would be the fuel useage. To lower it a bit to make more rapid shots towards one direction.
But i never minded. It would be just another button to press, and i would always lose treck of what to press when, to make the other cannons shoot.
My solution was removing the front cannon and placing just a single cannon in second slot (one unit of fuel, but two shots!), and maybe using an ATS.

What game are you playing? You always know where the cloaked ship is, because it's diametrically opposite you on the playing field! Line yourself up so you're facing the middle (EXACTLY) and shoot... bam! bam! bam! Avenger is historic.

I know that. But in a fixed window it would be helpful.
Sometimes i reason without regarding these special circumstances. Especially if you know where a cloaked ship is. I just hate knowing were cloaked opponents are (although i find it very useful to kill him).

In TW you just don't know where your opponent is.
In TW i hate that the computer knows where you are, once you've been visible and his AI has targettet you. He does never lose track of you, even if you're recloaking....

Greetings,
Martin

It only keeps track of you for a little bit after cloaking, but there's a random chance that it will "see" you (as if you passed over a star or bumped into an object).

This is one of the things I like more about SC1/2/UQM:  the Ilwrath cloaking is imperfect (it's explicitly stated in the manual as to how you can find them), and its _real_ special ability is the automatic angle-change on de-cloaking.  That's incredibly usefull.

In reply to the original question, I know there are going to be multiple Melee remixes (I'm doing one of them.  ;))  I'd love to hear a special song for the Sa-Matra, though.

Whaddya say, Riku?  Can I do that one?  Pretty please?

LOL...  While that's seriously off topic, I can't help but reply:
When I joined the TW boards a few years back, the Grand Fot assigned me the subtitle of "Thraddash Flower Child."  To match the title, I made this little avatar.  It's just a Thraddash pilot with a giant lava-lamp sitting behind him (it was either that or a psychadelic colored posey), but I can see how it could be miscronstrued as a futuristic toilet.  It's about time I changed my avatar anyway.  Maybe I'll put a Penguin on a Vidscreen behind him. ;)
