Title: Error in v0.3 manual
Post by: player1 on September 08, 2003, 03:49:35 pm
I tried to make unofficial addon from one of OGG music remixes.

It doesn't work as described in manual.
You need to put zip in content\packages folder, not in content\packages\addons folder to work properly.

Did you use the "--addon" option to enable your add-on? Also, did you put the zip in content/packages/addons/<add-on name> or content/packages/addons?

.zip files in content/packages will *always* be loaded, overriding
the defaults. If you put it in a directory under content/packages/addons/,
they will only be loaded if you specify '--addon <name_of_that_dir>.
If you want to make an add-on for a remix, you'd make create the directory where it will have to be 'inserted' in the content tree, put the remix there, zip it.
Example: say you want to make a content package of the Shofixti and the Ilwrath .ogg files.
You make a zip file with in that file the following files, in the specified dirs:
comm/ilwrath/ilwrath.ogg
comm/shofixt/shofixt.ogg
Be sure to specify to your .zip program that you don't want these files to be compressed, only stored, as .ogg files hardly compress at all, but they need to be quickly available, as they are streamed.
Then if you want to use it, create a directory 'remixes' in content/packages/addons, and put the .zip file there (you can put multiple .zip files there if you want).
Then if you start the game with '--addon remixes', the game will use the remixed ilwrath and shofixti tracks.

Or, for a simple, yet practical example:
  • Download my Kohr-Ah Yellow F.R.I.E.D. add-on:
    http://www.submedia.net/uqm/yellow-fried.zip
  • Create a new folder in your UQM tree:  content/packages/addons/yellow-fried
  • Put the yellow-fried.zip in that new folder.
  • Run the game as uqm --addon yellow-fried
...and enjoy the Kohr-Ah's Fiery Ring of Inevitable and Eternal Destruction as it was meant to be seen.  :)

It will work, but as an example, it's not perfect. You've got the images in that .zip file twice. Once in the root and once in the correct dir (blackurq).

I doubt it, but I'm not going to feed the troll :)

Whoops.  Fixed.

Thanks Nic, for the yellow Kohr-Ah corona. It's nice to see it the way it was meant to be seen.  :P
