Title: Are there any cheats in this GPL'd version? Post by: FrunkyDory on September 26, 2003, 06:00:39 pm Any way to edit the ships or otherwise fix it somewhat so I can actually survive against, say, a bunch of Myon, Kohr-Ah, or those annoying invisible Ilwrath?
How about a lil' money cheat here or there?? Thanks :) Title: Re: Are there any cheats in this GPL'd version? Post by: Deep-Jiffa on September 26, 2003, 08:22:07 pm Well, practice a little bit and you could beat them easily. And yes, you can cheat but you need to download a program... I don't remember the name. Someone mentioned it in a thread, saying it is in the pages of now and forever. I don't remember the adress but you can find it easily in this site.
Title: Re: Are there any cheats in this GPL'd version? Post by: Chad on September 27, 2003, 02:03:50 am You can try this save game editor. I havn't tried it with v0.3 yet and I'd like to know if it still works?

I guess I could also try editing the source code :o :-/ Title: Re: Are there any cheats in this GPL'd version? Post by: chmmravatar on September 27, 2003, 07:44:48 am The infinite RU cheat code is:
Up-Up-Down-Down-Left-Right-Left-Right-A-B-Select-Start ....and yes, the save game editor will work for 0.3. Except, it can only edit the first 10 saves, not all 50. With the save game format changing completely in 0.4, the save game editor will probably need to be replaced anyways. But anyways I think you're ruining the fun if you just cheat your way through the RU! Title: Re: Are there any cheats in this GPL'd version? Post by: Michael Martin on September 27, 2003, 08:57:05 pm ... too many Konami games?
This does not compute... --Michael (Why yes, I am bouncing up and down impatiently waiting for Gradius V to finally get published, why do you ask? ;D) Title: Re: Are there any cheats in this GPL'd version? Post by: Sage on September 28, 2003, 12:44:44 am Too many Konami games? I don't understand...
/me goes off to play Contra. Title: Re: Are there any cheats in this GPL'd version? Post by: SWC on September 28, 2003, 09:14:46 am Quote You can try this save game editor. Is there any other site with the file? Title: Re: Are there any cheats in this GPL'd version? Post by: Michael Martin on September 28, 2003, 12:26:54 pm You could also make a debug build, run it under a debugger, pause the program, edit the various variables in GlobData, and then save your game.
That'll at least make bumping your RU and Credit accounts easy. But yeah, really, you shouldn't. If you're too weak to fight, avoid engagements. Ilwrath Avengers have major advantages against Earthling Cruisers, so you really don't want to take them on until you have something with a high-speed medium range projectile attack, and that can also outrun the Avenger. (A thorough exploration and exploitation of Sol system should let you end up with several ways of doing this.) Title: Re: Are there any cheats in this GPL'd version? (A thorough exploration and exploitation of Sol system should let you end up with several ways of doing this.) Avoiding engagements is a non-option when I confront the Mycon for the Sun Device. They're kicking the crap out of me even with Arilou, Earth, Orz or Spaathi ships; 150 crew, two tracking modules, three Hellbore cannons and THREE Shiva Furnaces. I could beat them if I had Chmrr ships alongside me..but I need the Sun Device to do that..! It's going to be a long time before I am ever able to beat the battlegroup defending the Sa Matra, with all the equipment restrictions imposed on me with the bomb strapped onto the ship. Since everyone else has lightning reflexes I guess my only hope is to find a freeware C compiler for Windows and hack the source code to put in a cheat myself. Or just give up on the Sun Device and go jogging or something... Title: Re: Are there any cheats in this GPL'd version? Post by: chmmravatar on September 29, 2003, 04:12:44 pm Hmm...so it sounds like the problem is not really lack of RU, but your need to practice melee combat! Your best bet here probably would be Spathi...just fly in circles around the enemy and use the missile special attack. Or you can also lead the mycon's own fire into itself. It's really not that bad if you practice this matchup a bit in Super-melee before fighting in-game.
Alternatively, if you really, really, just can't get a hang of the ship-to-ship combat, instead of cheating use the game mechanic that was specifically designed for those who found the combat too difficult....cyborg mode! Go to the game settings and change it from Human-controlled to cyborg. The first cyborg setting will make it so you still select your ship and then the computer will fight it for you on screen, at a quicker pace. The second one will make it so the computer will simulate the entire battle, and you won't see anything (other than the victory screen, hopefully!) I could beat them if I had Chmrr ships alongside me..but I need the Sun Device to do that.. Huh? The Arilou Skiff and Spathi Eluder are probably the best ships in the game against the quite easily defeated Mycon Podships. The Skiff in particular takes out Podships easily; all you really have to do is fly straight at it, wait for it to fire, dodge the incoming plasmoids, and then fly around it while zapping it all the time. Repeat until toasted (or you mess up and get instantly killed, which occasionally happens). Many of us actually don't shoot at the Mycon any more; we just lure their plasmoids back into the Podship. You see, the Podship is sort of slow and those plasmoids just blindly follow you... ;D The Ilwrath Avenger is easy once you figure out where it is. The screen is always centered on a point in between you and the Avenger. Shoot in that direction; especially easy with a Nemesis. The Kohr-Ah Marauder is a really nasty piece of work. With a little practice, Fwiffo makes mincemeat of Marauders without a scratch. Title: Re: Are there any cheats in this GPL'd version? Post by: SWC on September 30, 2003, 07:46:58 am I agree. I use the skiff... I just let the Mycon fire, and then run around in back of it. It's own homing blobbies will kill it. It's pretty great to 1. ask them how they'd taste in butter, and then 2. kill them without hitting fire.

You need to solve another task first, before you can pick the sundevice.... A vindicator with hellbores and tracking modules should easily take out any Ur-Quan (KZ and KA) or Mycon (my max. fighting includes 1 tracking module and 1 hellbor in second slot, keep distance and fire in his direction, more important than great firepower is agility, so make sure your speed and turning rates are mexed out!).Blow up an Ur-Quan for me, Martin Title: Re: Are there any cheats in this GPL'd version? Post by: Deep-Jiffa on October 07, 2003, 05:30:48 pm If you already talk about cheats, I can tell why you are not planning putting multiplayer. This game is an open source! Anyone can edit it for creating "aimbot" ( All Ut or To or CS know what it means...). But if it is true, why does TW has multiplayer?
Title: Re: Are there any cheats in this GPL'd version? Post by: Krulle on October 07, 2003, 07:36:55 pm Because there is no ranking for it which could make it enjoyable to get hight in. And it is not a murder other faces game.
I do not know if anyone ever wanted to program one, cause it is just too much fun to blow someone up. And in TW it is not that easy for autoaimers, due to the very different types of weapons (front, side, back, autoaiming, rangedifference) and new weapons appearing every now and then. ... gee, sign me right up. (Granted, a perfect teleport defense for the Arilou or a near-perfect shield defense for Utwig/Yehat would be nice.) We're not putting multiplayer in because the only way to add it without totally rewriting the battle engine will be totally unplayable at pings longer than about 20 ms. (We'd need the ability to "turn back time" and resimulate based on when an event happened at the source. This capability -- indeed, this entire mindset -- is totally missing from the battle code at present.) And even if we did that, it still would be unplayable except on LANs. Imagine Arilou vs. Ur-Quan with a 100 ms ping; by the time the Arilou knows he's supposed to teleport, he's already died. |
