Forget the fact that they wouldn't work in "real" space, this is science fiction! It's more interesting with sound effects in space! The Sa-Matra would have nothing on the Vindicator in terms of planet-shattering power.
#3 - Law of Sonic Amplification, First Law of Anime Acoustics In space, loud sounds, like explosions, are even louder because there is no air to get in the way. I'd say this applies here as well.
