Title: The next remix pack number 2
Post by: Mark Vera on November 06, 2003, 09:18:35 am
So. You thought the remix pack 2 was here? Well not exactly.

It's been a bit quiet here and I just though that I could ask what people do expect from the next pack after hearing the first one. If you've done your homework you'd know by now that the release date is 10th November. Also you'd know that the pack will have following remixes:

Arilou, Melnorme, Slylandro Probe, Slylandro Home, Druuge, Spathi Home, Hyperspace, QuasiSpace.

All of you should have heard the Slylandro Probe remix already, although Espen felt it needed some changes, so the version in the pack is even better now. So even that remix is fresh.

So, what thoughts the next pack does raise for you?

  • Hyperspace - The next remix should be better than old Saibuster's.
  • Quasispace - I liked the PC music more, and the track should be an ambient masterpiece if done correctly.
If it's even close in quality to the mix Mark Vera released not so long ago, we'll have just that. It should represent the shock of going to another unimagined dimention where time runs faster and no fuel is spent.
  • Probe remix - Well, they are good in what they do (TiLT and Void that is) so I guess I'm pretty sure this one will turn out great.
  • Melnorme -I didn't like the old PC Melnorme tune, although I liked the fast rythm of it. The next tune should maintain that. But I wouldn't mind a completely different one altogether. And PLEASE don't put the "Potato Juice" words in it!!!
  • Arilou - This was one of my favourites. Maybe adding recognizable elements from the X-Files theme can be a good idea. (These are the "evil" aliens who infliterated earth).

I have nothing to say about the others, but overall I would be pleased in a general shift towards faster electronic music (as in "techno") as was in the first pack.

  • HyperSpace - Are we talking about your exceedingly cool "Electro Blast" mix, Mark, or something even better?
  • QuasiSpace - First question: 3DO or PC QuasiSpace? I personally prefer the 3DO version, but a quality ambient mix of the PC tune could also be good.
  • Spathi home - Hang on... You mean we get different tunes for Fwiffo and Spathiwa? Even better!
  • Druuge - Is this with or without heavily slowed down Gregorian chanting? That worked so well when combined with heavy guitar...
  • Slylandro home - Happy tune with funny noises. I suppose you can go wild with this one in several ways.
  • Slylandro probe - Well, we've already heard that mix. I like it. It strikes a good balance between the chatter and the music (unlike the original).
  • Melnorme - The drunk robots version was funny for a while, but we don't want that sort of madness in UQM, do we?
  • Arilou - The original did not reflect the otherworldliness of the Arilou, even though it was quite a good tune otherwise.

Mark forgot one track which is also included in the package - "Talking Pet".

Nope, there is a new remix written by me... and it might be a bit different than you expect.

PC QuasiSpace. Due technical reasons you can only have one Spathi in the game unfortunately. Fortunately that will be fixed in 0.4.

And ofcourse the other problem, 2 melee sound tracks! Yep, sa-matra special tune + new "normal" melee! But it will be probably released in the last part of the remix pack( 4 parts if I remember correctly...)

Problem? ;D Seriously, there are quite a few places where alternative tracks would be a welcome addition:
  • HyperSpace.
  • Combat/melee.
  • Planet exploration/mining.

All of the above are scenarios that occur very frequently and last for minutes at a time. While "Under a Red Sky" is a very good tune, it would seem reasonable to spend more time working on the tunes people listen to often and for longer than 5 seconds.

Apparently, multiple melee tunes are in progress. This is good. The planet exploration/mining sequences originally had 5 different tunes; how many are you going to remix, and do you have plans for any new ones?

Are there any plans for multiple HyperSpace tunes?

Awfully quiet here. Is everyone reloading The Precursors web site (http://spacesynth.net/precursors) repeatedly, or something? I, for one, wish I had enough patience to wait until tomorrow. ;)

You mean today, and no, unfourtunatly it is quiet here for the reason I am talking about for years(a month but it looked like a year).

You mean today...

No, I mean tomorrow. By tomorrow at 11 AM my time (0900 GMT), today will be yesterday everywhere (except some obscure islands near the international date line that don't count), which means that remix pack 2, which is to be released today, will have been released (irrespective of which time zone the release date is in), which is what I'm waiting for.

I wish the remix team would give us an exact time (in GMT) for each release, so I wouldn't end up spending the entire evening at school/work waiting for the remix pack to appear. Oh well, I guess releasing it "when it's ready" is less stressful and less error-prone.

I wouldn't expect the second remix package to appear in the first few hours, although I do believe it will be released some time this evening.

We got delayed a bit by various factors, the most important being that riku's computer got attacked by a very hostile virus.

Just hang in there, the wait will be worth it! :)
