Title: A different story line
Post by: Jesse on December 14, 2003, 02:45:28 am
Just for the heck of it, I recently played UQM all the way through as the evil leader of the Empire of Zudwick. It is interesting that you can complete the game (quickly too) without making many friends. The only aliens I had to make friends with were the Utwig. I also temporarily made friend with the Spathi, Pkunk and Orz to get their atrifacts. However, I rained down war on them later. I think it's great that the game designers let you play the goody-goody or a more evil position.
I am now planing on Role Playing the game with Hiarchey ships at the start. Imagine the impact when you blast your enemies with Ur0uan and Kor-ah ships. lol.

End of evil rant,
Jesse

You sure do.
UQM - until now - was the only idiot-free forum that I know of. Sure some people write things that I consider reeealy stupid but they do it in a civil way.
Posts like the one of Ur-Quan Shit Kicker should be something that happens to other forums

I sayeth: OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!!

I edited that offending message and banned him.

How about a nicer solution?
Instead of banning his ip, put it is a "warning" list and erase his messege. If he posts again like this, then ban him and ofcourse - erase his post.
Ok?
(like it really matter, they always finds a way to come back)

If he was a member, I might consider that but there's no reason to show mercy for guest trolls.

Did you actually read his message? Not only was it rude.... it was completely uncalled for. I consider some of my replies in poor taste, but the other person usually deserves it.

In all the time I've been lurking and posting here, I've never read anything like that around here.

Funny you say this, especially replying to me. But oh well, it is in the past. :)

Title: Ideas

I guess not everyone is as into different story lines as I am.

Sorry for stiring things up. I'll just go back to my video game now....

We can bring that back up in gory detail if you wish. I won't, but at least I created an account and appologized for my language.

Don't do that.... this thread got a bad start due to a moronic idiot. Do this, create a real account and start a new thread. Perhaps we can get this thread closed or renamed.

Now that I think about it, the one thing this game is really missing is multiple endings. That out of time thing |= a multiple ending.

I personally think it is a better idea to in case of such abuse just send a message to the moderators, and for the rest ignoring the message. That way, it won't spoil the original thread.
Also, note that his ip is probably assigned on a temporary basis, which means that not only he can have another ip tomorrow, but also, that another person can get his banned ip.
I'm personally not in favour of banning people based on ip unless there is no alternative.

[ignoring pointless posts that I feel should just be cleared or, else a new thread started and this one locked.]

So are you editing the game and making your own compile, then?

I've wondered in the past, with the .shp files from SC2 if you couldent rename orz.shp to earth.shp, the earth.shp to orz.shp, and changeup the game that way. However I've never had the time to do it.

You could.
I've used that as a cheat. After exchanging chmmr.shp and earth.shp I had an Avatar at the beginning of the game and could produce them from the beginning.
What's interesting, in DOS version the .shp file contained not only the ship but the whole species info (their homewrold, sphere's of influence location and size) so if you exchanged arilou.shp and kohr-ah.shp, Arilou instantly became a star empire and the Kohr-Ah had just a tiny sphere of influence.
It was quite entertaining.

Let's see, what would be the funniest rearrangement of ships?

Spathi get the Stinger, because they would need nerves of steel.
Druuge get the Penetrator, for obvious reasons (though remember the crew no longer feed the furnace)
Earthling and Kohr-Ah switch ships. Just to mess up the whole idea of the Kohr-Ah being able to take on the galaxy.
Since the Kohr-Ah have the Cruiser, then we should give the Zoq-Fot-Pik the Guardian, which massacres cruisers.
Pkunk get the Intruder. Instead of limpets, they send out tracts of new age philosophy, which has the same effect.
The Utwig get the Ilwrath ship (the name slips my mind). This seems somehow appropriate.
The Shofixti get the Podship. About as unlike a samurai as you can find, though it does reflect their rapid population replenishment, kind of.

and so on... any other ideas?

So who did you talk to if you went to Faylafalaralalii or saved the ZFP when they were under attack? Do the Kohr-Ah even HAVE a homeworld?

Actually I don't know.
I didn't change Arilou and Kohr-Ah, but Spathi and Kohr-Ah and even after that I didn't go to Spathiwa. I don't know why I haven't thought of that.
But if I had to guess I'd say the game would hang. If you went to a homeworld of a species that has no homeworld, the game would probably come up with something like "ERROR: unable to find blah blah blah"

As I recall from my similar experiments, the Kohr-Ah, only had the Arilou's Hyperspace sphere of influence, not their quasispace sphere. Also, events like the ZFP attack were still performed by the Kohr-Ah (and of course, the ZFP dialogue was the same as always).

I once played SC2 and had inadvertantly deleted the utwig.shp file. After meeting the Supox, an utwig-colored sphere of influence appeared over where the ilwrath were. If I went to that space, ships would appear and talk to me as utwig, but they didn't have any ships in the "Encounter in Deep Space" screen. I wonder what would've happened if I had engaged them in battle....

Title: Ship Files
Post by: Zeep-Eeep on December 16, 2003, 01:00:18 am
If you swap the ship files in the content.zip file, then the aliens are still in the same place. Just the ships they use change. For example, let's say that you swap the Yetah and Pkunk .shp files. The Pkunk still have the same home world (as do the Yetah). However, you will see Yetah ships flying around Pkunk space. If you stop to talk with them, a Pkunk will answer. I'm not sure what happened in the SC2 DOS version.

This also begs the oportunity to try to bring back SC1 ships into the game. You could have an alternitate universe where the ORZ are replaced by the Androsyth comet ships.

Last, but not least. To answer the question if I'd hacked the code and re-compiled. No, I did not. I just extracted, renamed and reinserted files from the content.zip file.

I apologize for breaking into this thread..... but since Deep_Jiffa seems to want to bring up the past and can't be bothered to look on Page 2 or do a search, I will link this for him. Here is the thread we got into it. If you want to continue this argument. Let's do it there and stop this thread from getting sidetracked again.

P.S. I will not reply to you anymore in this thread DJ. If you wanna fight, let's take it outside.

and lets not forget you said it when you had an account. Now you made me quote, so here it is:

Again, I apologize to everyone here (except Deep_Jiffa) for my comment. I'll try to be more subtle in the future.

Jiffa, cut it out. Your opponent asked to take this fight elsewhere. So you should respect your enemy (as well as the rest of us who read this crap you two feel the need to throw back and forth) and fight elsewhere, preferably out of the sight of your fellow forumgoers.

If you're going to hold grudges, fine. Just keep the rest of us clueless about it, mmkay?

P.S this messege will be deleted by 8 PM ( by this forum timezone) so I won't "ruin" this thread with this. And no, I don't respect anyone who doesn't respect me.
Edit: No harm feeling, I just don't want to see him lying so he will "look" better.
