Title: Hobbies
Post by: Lukipela on December 28, 2003, 02:33:31 pm
Anyone have any interesting hobbies?

Myself, I find my time gets swallowed up by schoolwork, reading and parties, but surely some of us must have more spare time? What do you do with your time?

Multiplayers games! You can sit for hours/days next to the computer and play this... You can't stop playing with people and doing "headshots"... hehe

I make stained glass, occasionally. I like to write and invent games. I like the idea of taking a classic old RPG and tweaking it.

I have an alternate version of Wizardry, and I have a job-based idea inspired by FF5.

Do you upload them to the net so people could download it and give it a try?

Well, you see, I work with the algorithms, not the interface. SO, lacking source code to tweak here and there, I can't, short of reprogramming the entire game and reproducing the game data.

Stained glass? What kind of glass, liek just panes, or glasses, or ornaments or what?

My main hobbies are reading, programming, and music. I attempt to write some music, but mostly I play with algorithmic composition or csound, or spend time trying to learn to use my Motif (synthesizer).

My current programming projects (at various levels of completion) include a GBA port of UQM, an editor/librarian for my synthesizer, and a programming language.

I'm also in the Society of Automobile Engineers at school. We're building a formula style racecar, and I'm helping to design (actually hopefully I'll be getting help soon, so far I've been on my own) a wireless telemetry system for it so we can monitor and make adjustments without having to make a pitstop.

I take colored glass, cut it into shapes, then grind down the sharp edges. Then I put copper tape around the outside edge, and solder the pieces together.

Most of the things I've made were to hang or lean in a window to catch the light. I also made 2 boxes.

Most of my work has been abstract and small, but I have done two larger representational pieces (not large like a stained glass window, more like 30 cm by 25 cm)-- or rather, I have done one and am almost done with a second.

I'm heavy into programming. Every once in a while, I'll even come up with something useful. My platform of choice is Linux (hense the penguin to the left....)

I'm also a big Dungeons and Dragons fan. Recently, I decided to mix the two and created a character generator:

Other than that? I like to study various religious and spiritual ideas. Anything from branches of christianity to buddism to witchcraft. I like seeing how different people put together the piecs of the universe.

I'm quite an avid gamer myself. D&D, D20 Modern (rules j00 f00!), anything that seems interesting. Later today I'm going to a D20 called "Supers". Not Superheroes, because you can be a villian too, and well...I kinda am. The basic choices of characters are those that can melee like no other and soak up damage to boot (Brick), those with some sort of otherwordly powers which they manifest at wll (Nova, Psychic), your basic X-Man (Mutant), and me, the guy with aim so good he can headshot an ant at 200 feet, no scope; the Duelist.
Other hobbies...uh...Diablo II...no, that's a game...Star Control is a game...Oh, I read. Sometimes.

Well i play computer games.............

but what makes me different is i play computer games in a chair i invented then made. This chair holds my keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, joystick, and computer with no need for a desk. I call it "The Chair" because there is so much electricty running through it it could be used for executions; thankfully they insulate wires. I would post a picture if I had any motivation to do so.

I also do some martial arts. just enough to injure myself every so often.
and other things i do.... I read, watch alot of anime, and right now im making a mod for NWN about the Wheel of time series of books.( 0.01% completed.)

I also play CPU games - I like the command and conquer series. (I rule Red alert 2!) I just got renagade and that is fairly good.
I, uh read a lot and I am learning computer programming (just started though).

I am a brown belt (one below black) in martial arts and I also test out a certain game called Ur-quan Masters (ever heard of it?)

I am also into sports (Go Patriots!!!) and play baseball, hockey (We made a rink outside my house) and football. That is about it.

Reviving this topic briefly to ask a question that recently came up: Does anyone here practice any sort of Yoga or Tai-Chi?

I've done a bit of reading (though I wouldn't actually call it in depth), but before committing myself to either one, I'd like to know if anyone here has any personal experience of either of these, and ifso, what they can tell me, recommend for me?

On a side note, another hobby I've recently discovered to be great fun: Baking. Cakes, bread, anything goes. And it's great fun as well! Esepcially anything with chocolate.

A little of each for me.
It's hard for me to judge really, since I was taking Yoga with this crystal-healing new-age lady in her 50s, and I took Tai Chi from a martial artist/sysadmin who spends his vacation months living with the Maori to learn their secrets on how to beat people up with sticks.

I'd say, find a good, non-dogmatic teacher. That'll help with the weaknesses of any one approach.

*reads back a ways*
Falcon, two questions: What martial art, and have you gotten Yuri's Revenge?
Ok, three questions: Who do you like to play as in RAII?
Four words, and only those that play RAII in here will understand.
"My truck is LOADED!"

I have _the_ most devastating, non-superweapon attack with them...ask me if you want to know, I'll PM ya.  ;D

2.  I got and love yuri's Revenge
3.  Korea, Iraq. (Also like terrorists and nuke trucks ;D ;D ;D )

"My Truck is loaded" ha ha - Maybe this is familiar: "Watch out for the bumps!" "One way trip!" ;D ;D ;D

I will have to play you some time!

Now THAT should have been a edit - Had to catch you sometime to make up for my mistake.  ;)

Oh - and what is up with the tomato? I don't understand....

Title: Re: Hobbies
Post by: ShofixtiWithAK-47 on March 23, 2004, 05:48:34 am
Well, my friend's brother wanted a tatoo, real bad. He actually needed one. That's right friends. The man had a desire that needed to be tamed.
So he went to the parlor, and decided that he should get something at least a little inoffensive, since he'd be "stuck with it for the rest of his life". So why not a tomato? I mean, who has anything against tomatoes?

Anyways, there's a music download above the whole text area. What did you think of it?
