Title: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Colonel E on January 03, 2004, 12:28:20 am Whiny rant about game,
Smilie Face! Impossible suggestion... -Username P.S. Poorly Described Technical Problem, Smilie Face! No, in all seriousness, I actually do have a suggestion, certainly suggested before, but here goes:Cheat Mode. I mean, like, cheats everywhere. What I really want to do is explore the SC2 universe, not having to worry about fighting or resource collecting or tedious hyperspace travel, etc, all the things that make the game good (or so I'm told) but which for people who utterly suck at games just get in the way of exploration. Anyhow, just my two cents. Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Chrispy on January 03, 2004, 01:31:25 am I see that as a waste of time. I'd prefer to see more important improvements worked on before the cheat mode.
Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Deep-Jiffa on January 03, 2004, 07:47:41 am Fuel and recourses, use the ship editor. Damn I keep forgeting the link. I will bring it to you unless someone will do it faster....
About the hyperspace encounters... I don't think there is such thing which stop them! Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Shiver on January 03, 2004, 10:50:25 am *Shakes head sadly*
Overcoming the difficulty is half the fun in games, but go ahead and knock yourself out with the editor. And no, I don't know where it is. Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Deep-Jiffa on January 03, 2004, 11:10:22 am Do whatever you want, but listen to my suggestion: If you want to explore the universe with the editor, do it AFTER you finish the game at least once! That way you will get what you want without ruining the fun in the game!
Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Lukipela on January 03, 2004, 02:16:39 pm Rude oldbie comment about pointless topic.
Philosophical discussion on the merits of cheating. Smiley. Link (http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/files/uqm.shtml) to said cheat editor for those who feel the need to use it. Stern warning about the dangers of cheating. Smiley. Expression of expectation for guesst to show up soon, doublesmiley. Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Deep-Jiffa on January 03, 2004, 04:11:11 pm You had to give it to him BEFORE he will realizes that he need to use it only after he finishes the game?!?!?! Damn you luk, damn you...
Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: guesst on January 03, 2004, 06:43:16 pm Quote Expression of expectation for guesst to show up soon, doublesmiley. Yup. But this time I'm on your side. Infact, I was looking for the generic reply post. I expected it to be reply #2. However this was reply #2 and I will comment on it: Quote I see that as a waste of time. I'd prefer to see more important improvements worked on before the cheat mode. Chrispy, you seem to think alot of things are a waste of time. Like using the Shift key and typing out whole words and puncutation and stuff. You know, I'd admire your profecency if it didn't make you look like a total AOLooser. Come on, man. Spell out the words. Two key strokes ain't gonna kill you. Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Chrispy on January 03, 2004, 08:00:39 pm I changed it. Its just a habbit I got from msn messenger:(
I will try and spell on this forum though:) Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Colonel E on January 04, 2004, 02:04:58 am Whiny reply to previous comments.
Whiny rebuttal to cheating argument. Predictable comment about "while you were out, I improved." Smilie. Thanking people for posting link to savegame editor... smilie. Whiny problem with savegame editor (in this case, I have the Linux version of UQM) Stupid closing remarks. -Colonel E P.S. Unrelated Comment. No, thanks anyways. The thing I don't want to do is fight. I can't fight, I'm terrible at it, it annoys me. Although today I went to go talk to the Orz and the Pkunk without cheating, although on my way back from the Pkunk I got destroyed by the Ilwrath... grrr... Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Nic. on January 04, 2004, 02:13:51 am Quote Whiny problem with savegame editor (in this case, I have the Linux version of UQM) If you have the Linux version, just rebuild the game from sources with -DTESTING defined, and start a new game. You won't NEED a savegame editor. ;) Alternately, you can enable "cyborg" mode in-game, and let the computer fight your fights for you; this might, in fact, be all that you need to do to get what you want (i.e., avoiding fights) Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Culture20 on January 04, 2004, 02:17:55 am Obligitory statement of "Can't we all get along?"
Pithy remark about linux users who compile the game themselves but still need a saved game editor. Lines of code to change for Precursor Vessal and Lander immortality. Lines of code to change for unlimited time. Smiley Face! Admission that Culture20 does not really know what lines of code to change since he doesn't need to cheat. Profuse Apologies. Bashfull Frowny Face. Edit: Gah! Nic, you and Novus keep posting while I'm typing my replies. It must be a conspiricy... Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Deep-Jiffa on January 04, 2004, 11:06:24 am Why you are all talking like 4 years old children? ???
Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Lukipela on January 04, 2004, 01:56:10 pm Statement that no 4 year olds are speaking. Smilie.
Swift and merciless hitting Dj with a pillow. Triplesmilie. Repetition of Nics comment about cyborg. Sincere congratualtions to everyone involved. Discrete pity for C20s unability to answer threads before someone beats him to it. Frowny face. Polite withdrawal from thread. Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Deep-Jiffa on January 04, 2004, 01:57:30 pm And to think you are all here 20+ years old....
Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Lukipela on January 04, 2004, 01:59:50 pm But with maturity comes the ability to act childish without being worried about loss of status. You see, when one is secure in ones own persona, one doesn't need to pretend adultness just to get social acceptance from ones peers... You'll understand in a few years ;)
Going back on topic... Well, thats it isn't it? Compile or Cyborg seems to be your only options, unless you intend to install Windows on your comp. Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Deep-Jiffa on January 04, 2004, 02:08:27 pm Cyborg will be the easier choice but there are some problems which are showen in this thread (http://uqm.stack.nl/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Gendiscuss;action=display;num=1072507130).

Spell out the words. Two key strokes ain't gonna kill you. Don't you mean "a lot", "punctuation" and "proficiency"? And what language is "ain't gonna"? I have three words for you: "pot", "kettle" and "black". Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Colonel E on January 05, 2004, 06:07:15 am Well, the original idea was that it was asked so many times it's become a sort of obvious rehersal that we shouldn't waste valuable brain-power figuring out how to word. I figured the post "how do I cheat? if I can't, you should put that in" has been posted about 2,234,728,395 individual times, but I couldn't find the post, nor is it stickied.
And for the record, compiling is easy. Just get all the library RPMs and then compile. You do run into problems sometimes, but it's a lot less daunting than you think. I booted into Windows mode, thus making the savegame editor work (reboot, change, reboot, move files). In all seriousness, thank you for your time, I may be back again someday... Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Colonel E on January 05, 2004, 06:12:32 am Oh, and wait. Cyborg mode? A link to the sticky where it is doubtless placed would be nice.

And what language is "ain't gonna"? I have three words for you: "pot", "kettle" and "black". *Laf* that's pretty funny actually. So I can't spell. At least I try to spell out the whole word. Bad spelling is a natural degradation due to poor public school system. Trendy internet abbreviations are a blatant attempt to destroy the language to seem "trendy." "Ain't gonna" is vernacular english. It was my attempt at interjecting a bit of humor into the post. Two words. "Apples", "oranges". Title: Re: Repetative Newbie Topic Post by: Colonel E on January 06, 2004, 05:14:16 am Thank you, Nic.
As long as I'm here... guesst is right. At least at this post. Sorry, It's a pet peeve of mine. |
