Title: UQM remake videos
Post by: Jeff Graw on January 13, 2004, 04:27:53 am
Since we dont have rights for the 3DO videos, it would be awesome if a team could get together and remake the 3D0 videos for use in UQM.

The original 3DO videos werent the best, but they do add a certain cinemetic feel to the game, and convey the plot.

Does anyone here have the dedication or skill to take part in such a project?

heck, I thought the PC "films" had a cinematic feel and conveyed the plot.  :P

I have the dedication, but not the skill.  I downloaded Blender (http://www.blender3d.org) to see what I could do, and the answer was, to my dismay, "not much at all".  :(

Fortunately, I think it's a fascinating piece of software, and it could be the start of an interesting hobby for me.  I've got plans to buy the new manual when it ships (target date is later this month) and see where that takes me, hopefully it'll be alot of fun.

Gak, people. Search function! It's been discussed before, I promise you.

The short answer to your question is, "No."

The long answer is, "If there were people with the skill and dedication that you speak of, don't you think we'd already have what you 'suggested'?"

The even longer answer is, "Why don't you do it and lead the way, oh stalwart suggester-of-things? Because you have no skill or dedication? They why did you open your pie-hole?"

Besides, as has already been mentioned, the original PC ones weren't so bad (I actually like them) and they are available for the dev team to use. Infact, they're already in the data files for the game, they just need to write a system for accessing them.

Man, Luk is right. I have been a bit peevish lately.

I', always right. That's why I'm enlightened.

Regarding the actual topic, until someone actually steps up and says something along the lines of "I would like to make new videos for the intro and outro, would the dev team care to have a look at them?" We're really only doing small-talk.

Though I am, as always, impressed by Nic and the fact that he has energy enough to look into the subject. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him do it in some version of the future... But until then we can only hope..

Wasn't there something called "The Star Control Movie Project"?
I remember that someone from there contacted me when I was making a SC mod for Bridge Commander...

I have 2 things to say:
1. The project reffered to was called XR for expanding realities and seems to be an abandoned idea.
2. Tsing once made an awesome movie with Chmmr avatars and the Sa-Matra, you should contact him and pay him what he wants so you can gain his amazing service.

For the record, I am not Tsing, nor am I affiliated with him.
