Title: Several varyingly inane things
Post by: Kizor. Blah. on February 18, 2004, 12:02:09 am
- What do we know of the size of the alien races? The Ur-Quan are large as anything and Syreen are, erm, compatible, but beyond that Orz could be two meters in diameter and Shofixti two feet tall.

- I was going to say that Orz marines appear to be varyingly effective depending on what kind of ship they enter, based on my experiences with Eluders and Terminators. Then I saw what happened to a Marauder of mine and decided not to.
However, I'm quite sure that there are fewer more embarassing ways to lose a melee than by piloting a Dreadnought that's pushed right into the planet by a DOGI swarm.

- How well is Orzese internally consistent? Completely? A bit rough around the edges?

I'm guessing that the kohr-ah are around the same size as the ur-quan, but you never know.

SC1 manual:
Resembling a giant caterpillar, a fully-grown Ur-Quan is formed of a segmented body-tube ten meters long and two meters in diameter.

From SC2 manual:
Yehat:  Physically, these creatures resemble a 3 meter high
hybrid between an old Earth pterosaur and a bumble-
bee.
Ariloulaleelay:  Arilou (as individuals of this species are called) are pale,
about 1.5 meters tall, and have large, childlike heads with dark, soulful eyes.
Spathi:  The Spathi physique is slight and soft, (no hard data, but from "slight" from a human perspective).

From conversations (grepped for meter, might be more relative measurements):
Precursors:  5 to 8 meters tall and twice as wide.
Mycon:  we know Mycons range in height from .5 to 3.5 meters
Deep Child egg:  our reconstruction of the whole egg case shows it to be over 25 meters high!
Dnyarri:  hardly larger than one of your Earth dogs.

My speculations:
The Androsynth & Syreen are obviously human-sized.
The Shofixti are smaller than humans.
I think the Ilwrath are taller than a human (maybe bear-sized?)
I think an Orz *finger* is 1 meter in diameter at maximum.  (the vacc-suits shouldn't get too big)
I think the supox are slightly taller than a shofixti.
I think the VUX are human-sized.
I think the Utwig are human-sized.
I think the druuge are human-sized.
Chenjesu, MmrnMhrm, and Chmmr all seem larger than a human.
Umgah:  their love of being inside a living being (the coat their spaceship interiors with living skin) makes me think they're small & evolved from parasites, despite my long held impressions that they're hippo-sized.  Of course, they could have infested some _really_ big critters on their home planet.
Thraddash: probably bigger than a human, smaller than a Chmrr.
ZFP: tiny, maybe smaller than shofixti.
Slylandro: possibly any size
Keel-vereezy: some speculate that he/she/they are minute
pkunk: smaller than a yehat, but with a bigger head than a human
Earthlings: Human sized.

Well, I sure hope so...

The Drall were 3 meter tall skeletal humanoids, according to the SC2 manual.

A Chenjesu's size would be dictated more by the limits of its environment and on the availability of proper sustenance (energy & minerals).  A upper limit may also be imposed if the Chenjesu reproduced by splitting off parts of themselves to create new individuals.

"Sanctuary", a fanfic by Shaun Green, states the Mmrnmhrm to be 130 centimeters, or 1.3 meters.  It is, however, an estimate, not an incontrovertible fact.

Which SC2 manual is this (the Drall are only mentioned in-game, and there is no physical description)?

Just realized that I left out the melnorme, but I have no idea how big they would be; could be 2 centimeters, could be 12 meters...

Orz in its entirety spans dimensions that we have no measurements for (height, width, depth, and *flavor*?)

Its from the Pages of Now and Forever, *supposedly* from the SC2 manual.
The SCWC does not, however, list if it was from the PC or 3DO version.

Ah, I remember that now; I think that info came from fanfiction like the MmrnMhrm info (maybe the XR project; they wanted to make a Mileu movie).  The last paragraph is probably attributed to SC2, and the physical description might have been created afterwards.

A few other things have come to my attention. Since I was apparently determined to post them, it was more reasonable to do so here and start another thread.

- On SuperMelee: I've also come to the concusion that there are few more satisfying ways to win a melee than by destroying a Podship with a Shofixti Scout by having the Podship's own plasmoids run into it.

- The Wikipedia is an open-source encyclopedia. I made http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orz and extended http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Control . You are welcome to improve them further.

While we're at it, www.everything2.com has some entries on Star Control; I wrote a few of them.

The Drall description came from the SC2 Role Playing Resource Guide written by Fred and Paul. I have it in .pdf format on my SC2 cd. Just a heads up. =)
