Title: 2 Controllers
Post by: Patrick D on February 25, 2004, 10:10:21 pm
What's up all?

First of all I'd like to say that I've been running UQM since the last 2 releases bug/crash/error free on my system.  Excellent work!

I'd like to know how to use 2 controllers in UQM - specifically for Melee with friends.  I've tried duplicating the first controller code and changing appropriately (device name/settings - ranges) but this doesn't work.

If anyone has any advice on this I'd greatly appreciate it.  I'm running this through TV out on a friends HD TV and this is the ONLY thing holding us back.  They're simple USB gamepads - different from each other though (a gamepad pro and a nyco airflow - both work fine in 1 player) - to avoid conflict.

Thanks
Pat

Edit your keys.cfg -- have Player 2's actions be "joystick 1 axis 0 positive" and the like instead of "joystick 0".  Set the joystick 1 threshold to the same as joystick 0's.  It "should" work.  (That is, I haven't tested this, since I lack two joysticks, but that's what ought to do the trick)

Just copy / paste / edit the proper lines at the end of the config file - directly below player one?

I believe I tried that very thing - but I'll try it again tonight and let you know.

Thanks Mike!

I too did this recently, and it's quite easy to replicate. You copy whatever config over, changing Player-1 to Player-2, and the joystick assignments appropriately. Be sure not to convert Player-1-Escape over though, since Player 2 never really has an option to escape. Be sure not to copy the lander controls, and the menu controls you can put on P2 if you want.

So, in a nutshell, it can work. However, I think it would be better if there were separate menu controls for Player 1 and Player 2. This way, P1 can't accidentally choose P2's ship, or even "accidentally", or whatever.

I'm going to try this tonight and I'll let you know if I get it.

Thanks to both of you for your help.
