Title: Feeling... Enlightened?
Post by: Culture20 on March 19, 2004, 06:38:39 am
This is a thread for anyone who wants to make a 501st  post speech.

This is my 501st post, and I'm surprised I haven't posted more considering I read _every_ little post.  I suppose it's because I re-edit my former posts, and sometimes respond to multiple people in the same post.  ;)

If I haven't missed my guess, there's going to be a lot more enlightened people before these boards dissolve.

I think luki mentioning coming back, thought that doesn't mean he will. Nic is probably gone for good, seeing that his account it gone.

Personally, I generally don't hold people that post a lot in little time in very high regard. Usually they don't actually have anything to say, but say it anyhow. So they post unimportant matters, and reply on every new posting, often just with "I agree" or "LOL".
I never liked the current titles. "Enlightened" sounds like something that would be good to achieve, and indeed many people seem to post just to achieve that level. The title "posting diarrhea", which we had for a few days was much better imho. But if it were up to me (and unfortunately I seem to stand pretty much alone in this), there would be no titles at all (at least none based on the amount of postings).

I'm posting this in the hope that I convince others not to say things when they've got nothing to say. Quality not Quantity. But I doubt this will have much influence. At the very least, please don't reply on this mail with "I disagree".

My chatter? Well, sorry to dissappoint you old friend, but that seems highly unlikely. Very few people IRL or here can match the amount of output i sometimes generate when in one of my wilder phases. And since I'm back for an undetermined amount of time, I'll once again assume my rightful position.

Hmm, I don't think posting diarrhea was such an amusing title, nor would it have served as a deterrent for those who actually felt the need to raise their post count. Rather, we would have been swamped with "OMG LOLORZ LOOK IVE GOT POSTING DIARREHUA!!! OMG!! LOL!2 kind of posts, which in their own little way might have interrupted our conversations just a tad, hmm?

A lot of us older soldiers (as D_99 proved with this nifty little division thingy) actually don't post that much, even though we sometimes skyrocket when we are in debate. We've just been here a long time. I agree some ofthe young'uns around here post in excess at times, but you have to rememebr that times have changed. The Off-Topic board ittself has caused that. When I was new here, the only threadas around were in General or Technical. Making a lot of posts quickly back then involved making posts about SC2 or actual technical problems, thus forcing you to make longger and more coherent posts.  The off-topic, whilst undoubtedly good for building a community spirit (even though a baffling amount of what I view as "the community" has left) also allows for postcountpumping in a way that wasn't possible before. Who knows how I would've started myselfif I'd arrived today?

But in general I agree. Even in the café, we should strive to post when he have something to stay. Circumstances may have changed on the board, but common sense should still be applied. You don't need to reply to everything, and if you do, please add more than two sentences. This is generally a good post length, lets all try and keep to this. ;)

i didnt mean "chatter" in a bad way Lukipela. you always have meaning in what you say. i was refering to your post count. in that aspect you talk...alot. ;D but it is good to have you back, as the looming job of posting that much, was wheighing heavy on my shoulders.

I don't quite agree with "please add more than two sentences.". Your posting length should reflect how much you have to say. If you've got nothing to say, or nothing that anyone cares to read, then don't say anything. If someone can get the point across in 10 words instead of in 100 words, I'd say 10 words is better.
If however, you can make your ideas more clear by elaborating, then by all means do so.
You should keep in mind that if your posting gets too long, people might not even start on it, however easy your writing is.

Note that this is just all my personal opinion. I may be a moderator, but I'm not trying to force anything onto anyone. I'm just trying to convince people.
Also, when I'm writing "you" in this note, I mean either the reader, or "one", not particularly Lukipedia.

Actually, that was meant to be (partially) a joke, seeing as my post was about 3 times the average for the Café. Maybe that didn't carry well enough though.

Yes Chrispy you are. You concisely post plantae ;)

Luki no offense but that is getting a little old everyone misspells words. Certain words I mean, not everyone is perfect corrects all their mistakes. I have a tendency of transposing letter Chrispy spells plant as plante(This is an international forum it my be spelled this way where he's from ) I'm sure if we look back at your posts we are bound to find mistakes.

Title: Re: Feeling... Enlightened?

Sure, I have found a few mistakes on luki's - big deal. Yours two.

If you read Chrispys last 20 posts (unless he edited them) he has spelled planet wrong about ten different ways. Even when he has been showed how to spell it correctly. So it is a running joke between the two.

Post by: Chrispy on March 27, 2004, 03:20:28 am
Well I misspell a lot of words, but that is not the point here.
The point is that I misspelled planet ~6 times, and I still havn't learned my lesson(funny). It comes from typing habits. I didn't know how to spell planet when I was learning to type.
