Sorry mate, but your looking in the wrong place. This site and forum is dedicated to UQM, not just games in general. One of the regulars might be able to help you if they remember any offhand, but I'd advise you to go do a search on the net on your own. Just type wing commander into google and see what you find.

Well WC 1,2 and 3 were sold as a set for Win 95/98 might be XP compatible although it is doubtful name "The Kilrathi Saga" For WC1 and 2 it does give u the option of invincibilty but where's the fun in that?

I remember those games. Did anyone ever play Privateer? That was pretty damn fun.

i was a little upset at the loss of lead character (cant remember name), the one played by mark hamill, in wing commander 4. it didnt sit well with me that he should bite the dust at the end. but all in all, the whole series was very entertaining. any one else play this one? how did the ending fair for you?

The Kilrathi Saga (WC1-3) does work in XP. Sometimes one has to activate Win95 Compatibility mode but otherwise it works without problems. With the Kilrathi Saga comes a Win95 Patch for WC4 which enables that game to run under WinXP as well. That patch can be downloaded anywhere for free too. (also on our site: http://www.wcrevival.de/downloads/index.php#wc4)
WC Prophecy does have a few problems with the video sequences which can be solves by deactivating the hardware acceleration of your soundcard while you're playing the game.

Hope we could help,

If that happened, then you probably picked the wrong choices at the assembly. Trust me, there is a good ending to this game.

its been a while since i played, but from what i remember, he was on the alien ship and the squid things got him. i thought that was how it was supposed to end. i didn't have the game anymore to play through, but ill check gamefaqs for a walkthru. maybe i can get the other endings that way. thanks for the tip.

Oh, in that case it's Wing Commander Prophecy you're talking about, not Wing Commander IV.

I have to say, Wing Commander was awesome but my favorite Origin game was Ultima VII.  That is probably, in my opinion, the only game I have ever liked as much as Starcontrol II.

I always thought the Wing Commander series was a little overhyped.  I think TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance were both extremely superior titles in the same genre.  Also Elite was the original 'privateer' game, and it did a better job of it.

Seeing as I always consider plot, atmosphere and gameplay to be the most important aspects in games, I still consider Privateer to be the best Elite-like game out there. It's incredible how much less empty the gameworld seems simply because you can walk around the bases and talk to people, plus the communication in space.

That seems to be what in general attracts the fans of Wing Commander: strong plot and depth in characters.

Oh yeah, I remember those Star Wars flyers. X-Wing was alright, but TIE Fighter just seemed way more polished. I've never even heard of Elite, though.

Never played X-wing, but TIE fighter was one of my favourite fames ever. Even though I had to play it with a mouse, which proved just a tad annoying.

As for WC, never played them. Any of them. Just never got around to I suppose.

Looking above to the threads original purpose, so as nnot to be COMPLETELY off-topic, I see it's been answered already. So I don't need to say anything more. Except I wish you could have used "Force Grip" in TIE, it would've saved time.

Yea I played that game to the end... with a mouse! (I only had to cheat at one level ;)) Those dogfights where a non-stop desk hammering frenzy, lol :)

MUCH MORE challenging with a gamepad. I used it on Wolf3D, Duke and other classic FPS and flight-simuators\space-combat games. Now I only use it in emulators and whenever I replay one of the above genres, happens to be the only part I have not replaced in 10 years! It is kind of difficult to find a gamepad that uses a serial cable. As a final not gamepads are much more sluggish than joysticks when it comes to flight-simulators, but they last a hell of a lot longer.BTW does anyone know where to purchase outdated, obsolete computer hardware?

TERMINATOR - The Obnoxious One

To avoid any confusion I WAS BEING SERIOUS.

Hmm. I never played with a gamepad, but I seriously doubt that it can be harder than with a mouse. Correct me if I'm wrong, but even if your gamepad is sluggish, as long as you keep the "turn" button pressed, it turns, right? With a mosue, you have to keep moving the mouse in the diretion you wanty to turn, meaning that you have to keep making this dragging motion, then quickly lifting the mouse and replacing it further up on the mousemat, and continue. And yes, that was pure hell in dogfights.

As far as I know, there's a fan-made mod of Wing Commander: Secret Ops called WC: Unknown Enemy (http://unknownenemy.solsector.net/news.html).  I don't actually have the Secret Ops, so I can't say how good the mod is.  The screenshots look good, however.

Try it out if you have any interest; I'd like to hear about its quality.
