Title: HYPNOTOAD Post by: Arianna Reiche on May 27, 2004, 12:16:29 pm Whats up kids...
Was watching Futurama with dad (Paul Reiche III) and he got quite flabbergasted when they mentioned a "hypnotoad." We both felt ths could have been "inspired" by the hypnotic frog in SC. Funny stuff. --PR III's daughter Title: Re: HYPNOTOAD Post by: Death 999 on May 27, 2004, 08:17:58 pm Well, while the dnyarri kept on being described as a 'toad' in the game, it never looked to me like a toad so much as an umgah with a limited flexibility problem.
But what was the context? If the hypnotoad was an object of fear, then great! If it was just mentioned as a pet-shop (or prank-shop) curiosity, then... btw: even beyond the extent that anyone is welcome here, a scion of one of the makers is welcome! Title: Re: HYPNOTOAD Post by: meep-eep on May 27, 2004, 08:24:29 pm I've also seen real-life references to the mind-altering properties of certain toads. Usually it involves licking them though. (I'm not making this up, see for instance http://www.urbanlegends.com/alt.folklore.urban-archive/toad_licking.html)
And welcome to the forum, Arianna. Title: Re: HYPNOTOAD Post by: Fsi-Dib on May 27, 2004, 08:33:33 pm Hehe, Hypnotoad rocks. I didn't think of the relation that instant though. I was too busy laughing "Damn that dude is cool!"
Title: Re: HYPNOTOAD Post by: Culture20 on May 27, 2004, 10:10:58 pm Hypnotoad (in futurama) had its own television station ("All glory to the Hypnotoad!"), where it would just sit stationary, making its eyes glow and implanting suggesions in the populace.
Hypnotoad also appeared in another episode with a pet-show. Nibbler was Teranga Leela's entry, Dr. Zoidberg was Bender's entry (as an endangered whooping crab), but the Hypnotoad got 10 out of 10 in every contest ("Hypnotoad wins all. All hail the Hypnotoad!"). It could have been SC inspired; they use a lot of space-references in that show. The Hypnotoad apparently has a website too: http://www.milkandcookies.com/links/9588/ Title: Re: HYPNOTOAD Post by: Arianna on May 28, 2004, 02:43:52 am Quote even beyond the extent that anyone is welcome here, a scion of one of the makers is welcome!
