Title: Admiral Zex Post by: Dave Morse on December 06, 2002, 02:10:23 am I've toasted a dozen of Zex's ships...and here comes number 13. The Melnorme said I had a chance if I chose to fight him, but it looks like an infinate stream of ships. Is it?
I know the other way around this puzzle, but alas, I want to do it this way... Title: Re: Admiral Zex Post by: Zeroarmy on December 06, 2002, 02:55:19 am You can't beat his ships (for every one you kill another one takes it's place). You have to do a task for him in order to get the Shofixti Madains.
Title: Re: Admiral Zex Post by: Parker on December 06, 2002, 03:23:38 am Even though I don't think you can get much item-wise from attacking and destroying his ships, you can get a lot of dialogue from him if you continually destroy, escape, and come back. It's worth it.

Title: Re: Admiral Zex Post by: Musourenka on December 06, 2002, 04:14:44 am When dealing with homeworlds, you cannot win the battles, as there is an infinite amount of ships that replace each one you destroy.
Title: Re: Admiral Zex Post by: Dave Morse on December 06, 2002, 08:24:40 am If Admiral Zex is indeed a exile, revilled by his own kind, then it would stand to reason he wouldn't have an <infinate> number of VUX crewmen to man his ships. Hence the question. But alas it seems the number is infinate (or at least 17)
Title: Re: Admiral Zex Post by: Musourenka on December 06, 2002, 09:25:03 am Check the encounter screen. If there are a lot of ships on the screen (like twenty or more), then it is considered a homeworld and there are an infinite amount of ships there.

They simply gave him his own planet so his sick fetish won't disturb the general population. That doesn't mean he isn't allowed to have a fleet of VUX ships to protect him. Remember he's the greatest general in all of VUX, so even if exiled (which he wasn't) he would have many supporters willing to go with him. Title: Re: Admiral Zex Post by: Dave Morse on December 06, 2002, 12:22:54 pm There is no encounter screen with him. It dumps you straight to the dialog.

Yes, I just found that out today. :) Encounters like that indicate that the person(s) you've bumped into are not initially hostile. I accepted his quest, by the way, but I have no clue about his cryptic clue to the planet/star I need to go. Any advice, specifically advice that tells me where to go? :) Title: Re: Admiral Zex Post by: Nic. on December 07, 2002, 09:48:59 am Quote I accepted his quest, by the way, but I have no clue about his cryptic clue to the planet/star I need to go. Any advice, specifically advice that tells me where to go? :) Hint #1: The Thraddash will tell you about it, as a warning, but you have to befriend them first. Hint #2: It is not within any alien race's sphere of influence, and actually does look kind of like a little thingy swallowing a big thingy on the starmap Hint #3: One of the portals in QuasiSpace drops you off near where you need to go, which is how I originally stumbled upon it.. I hope that was "almost helpful" :P Title: Re: Admiral Zex Post by: Azrael on December 08, 2002, 05:54:37 am You'll know the creature when you see it too...tough, fast, and deadly.
Title: Re: Admiral Zex Post by: Arrow on December 08, 2002, 06:54:21 am And it CHASES YOU LIKE A MO-FO! :-/
It took me about 9 landers to bag that thing on my first go. Well, injuries inflicted by your stunner are still counted when you send another lander to the surface. I usually clear out all the other life forms on the planet, then try to get it to intercept my path, and pelt it with the stunner. The shots actually knock the creature back a step, but unless you have improved firing installed, it'll eventually come in contact with your lander. Though what irritates me is that the atmosphere is at least marginally hostile, so you might take casualties before you facedown the beast (in which case contact could easily blow up the lander). I usually recall the lander the moment it starts touching the lander, and send it down for another try. Usually on the second or third try you'll manage to grab it. Are you sure Mr. Purple said that? Well, that's weird. It does sound fun fighting through 30+ VUX and then facing a souped up Intruder piloted by ZEX at the end, but I remember ZEX pointing out that he has an infinite number of ships with him. Yeah and the funny (you decide strange or haha) part about this quest is you'll find out sooner or later that ZEX's sick fetish isn't what you think initially ... :o Title: Re: Admiral Zex Post by: Captain Smith on May 10, 2003, 10:56:18 pm FWIW
Mr. Purple: To acquire the Shofixti females, you will have to appease ZEX because, I fear, killing him will be virtually impossible due to his exceptional battle skills and the huge personal fleet he possesses. Zex: So you see, Captain, if you attack me, you will face the greatest military tactician in VUX history commanding an unlimited number of enemy combat ships and the battle will be to the Death! Captain, even without such a device, you must understand the overwhelming forces I have at my command! You cannot beat me here. It is impossible. It would be cool in some of the cases if you could actually take on the "homeworlds" like ZEX's and beat them - after all no force really is "infinite" is it? It'd be cool to be able to get the VUX or Druuge or others on your side by being able to kick them around until they surrender...of course you'd have a semi-revolution perhaps like the Yehat...but I've always thought about that...the existence of colonies and the ability to wipe them out.... heh heh heh.....BOOM! ha ha ha Title: Re: Admiral Zex Post by: captain_kirk on May 10, 2003, 11:36:50 pm is zex gay some of the stuff he says
