Title: The Planet Eaters Post by: Zalastri on June 09, 2004, 01:40:07 am My dad and uncle john.. they've played star control II through about 40+ times (Honestly... They love the game). On some planet theres a wrecked base (3d0 version) talking about something named the planet eaters.. saying they obliterated a whole world. My dad says he found some other scattered info after visiting at least 95% of the worlds and talking to almost if not everything. Does anyone have any information on the planet eaters? My dad thinks they're what wiped out the precursers. Took out their whole world by.. eating it o_o
Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: FalconMWC on June 09, 2004, 01:52:27 am What? Perhaps you are referring to what happened to the androsyn?
Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: Zalastri on June 09, 2004, 02:15:24 am No idea, my dad says it's something he's still trying to figure out to this day. (The planet eaters)
Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: meep-eep on June 09, 2004, 02:40:02 am I think he's fallen for the same Umgah trick that the Spathi fell for:
Quote One particularly nasty prank was the time they broadcast a trick message through space declaring the arrival of the 'Grand Master Planet Eaters' or some such nonsense. This caused several alien cultures to go mad with panic including, you might be surprised to know, ourselves. There's another reference from the Spathi: Quote At least we have removed one source of their annoying jokes -- an unusually strong Hyperwave 'Caster which they used on several occasions to impersonate such frightening characters as the Grand Master Planet Eaters Jud the Ineffable Vug and Killmaster 18. Needless to say, we did not fall for any of their high jinks. But there are no actual planet eaters in the game. Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: meep-eep on June 09, 2004, 02:43:09 am Oh, I forgot one reference. When the Spathi leave their moon to go back under their slave shield on their home world, they leave a message behind:
Quote P.S. THIS MACHINE IS THE SUPER-POWERFUL HYPERWAVE CASTER THAT THE UMGAH USED TO TRICK US INTO BELIEVING THAT THE `GRAND MASTER PLANET EATERS'WERE COMING TO DESTROY SPATHIWA. WE THOUGHT MAYBE YOU'D LIKE TO HAVE IT. This reference is probably at the "wrecked base" you mentioned. Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: Zalastri on June 09, 2004, 02:53:47 am I know I know, There -is- a world with a wrecked base with a message of the planet eaters. It's not the spathi trick
Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: Culture20 on June 09, 2004, 03:17:42 am Or perhaps he mis-remembers the Burvixese, whose culture was destroyed by the Kohr-Ah?
Quote THESE RUINS SEEM TO BE THE REMNANTS OF A CIVILIZATION WHICH CALLED ITSELF THE `BURVIXESE'. ALL THEIR CITIES HAVE BEEN REDUCED TO RADIOACTIVE SLAG BY SOME FORM OF ENERGY WEAPON SIMILAR BUT NOT IDENTICAL TO THE UR-QUAN'S FUSION BLAST. FROM EVIDENCE WE HAVE GATHERED HERE, WE CAN CONCLUDE THAT THIS ENTIRE CIVILIZATION WAS DESTROYED FROM ORBIT SOMETIME IN THE LAST 8-12 EARTH YEARS. THERE ARE NO SURVIVORS. Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: Censored on June 09, 2004, 03:21:04 am umm, no.
give us the coordinates if you're so sure, but I should warn you that unless you're mistaking the Spathi-Umgah incident (see above) with this one, then you wouldn't find anything. Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: Zalastri on June 09, 2004, 04:30:44 am >:\ I'm not wrong... it's real dammnit!
Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: meep-eep on June 09, 2004, 06:12:33 am Well, theoretically, it's possible that the rest of us all missed it in the game, and that TFB removed it from the sources before they gave them to us.
But I'd place my money on you mixing some things up. Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: Zeep-Eeep on June 09, 2004, 06:28:18 am Maybe, since your dad has played the game so much, he'd be willing
to go through one more time and find the elusive quotes about the planet eaters. However, having just done a search through the content and source (I love grep) I have to agree with Meep-eep. Edit: There are three matches to the term "planet eater" in the game text. Each of which is listed above. Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: Culture20 on June 09, 2004, 08:11:41 am And I just did a strings & grep through the original SC2 for DOS. It had the Burvixese & Spathi quotes, but nothing else in the lander text about the Planet Eaters.
Also remember that we're not saying you're lying, just that your father mixed something up after not playing it for several years (I've done the same thing; I always forget where the cloaking device is hidden). Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: ChainiaC on June 09, 2004, 12:14:23 pm Yes, but its hard to find cuz its cloaked.
Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: Death 999 on June 09, 2004, 08:00:27 pm Linux has some pretty powerful built in sensors, but even grep can't penetrate this cloak.
Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: Zalastri on June 10, 2004, 02:10:28 am This is one of the hints... my dad picked up on this a long time ago
On your first contact with the arilou they say that they modified earths history to make us invisible to the creatures... and that if we showed ourselves they would surely come for us... the androsynth showed themselves, and there are no more androsynth. God I love this game Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: meep-eep on June 10, 2004, 03:23:27 am This is true. But there's no indiciation that this has anything to do with the Planet Eaters. In fact the Spathi seem to be convinced the Planet Eaters are nothing but an Umgah hoax. And what the Spathi don't fear, doesn't exist.

God I love this game There's a very long and extensive thread, from say a year ago, concerning just this topic - on the entity that the Orz represent, which is directly related to the Arilou/Orz/Androsynth story. It's very interesting and we've discussed many interesting views there, I suggest you read it and it might shed some light for you. This is the main, original thread: Arilou and the Orz: What's the Deal? *spoilers* (http://uqm.stack.nl/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Gendiscuss;action=display;num=1039336915;start=0) And these two are two new ones which I haven't read entirely, but they seem to rediscuss the same things, or most of them at least (damnit people, do a search :P) The Orz, the Arilou and perhaps a New Idea (http://uqm.stack.nl/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Gendiscuss;action=display;num=1076823295;start=0#0) 'They' cannot see you now (http://uqm.stack.nl/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Gendiscuss;action=display;num=1075727295;start=0) Enjoy Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: Art on July 06, 2004, 11:56:18 pm The Grand Master Planet Eaters were confirmed to be a hoax.
The Orz ate all the Androsynth *on* the planet, after all, but the planet was still there for you to land on, wasn't it? :) Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: Censored on July 07, 2004, 12:18:33 am The Androsynth were "snatched" into another dimension, by some entity, probably related to the Orz. All the clues in the game point to the Orz or some kind of entity they represent or are messangers of, but we don't know for sure.
That's what makes them so creepy! Title: Re: The Planet Eaters Post by: Grand Master Planet Eater on January 24, 2011, 11:18:12 pm The Grand Master Planet Eaters were confirmed to be a hoax.
