Title: Re: Help with mycon Post by: Terminator on June 11, 2004, 01:16:33 pm You can find this information in many places, namely the 10+ other threads archived here asking this very same question of you can look it up at the pages of now and forever.
Better yet go to 629.1, 220.8. TERMINATOR - The Obnoxious One Title: Re: Help with mycon Post by: drizo the rizo on June 11, 2004, 01:22:58 pm thanks a lot
Title: Re: Help with mycon Post by: Lukipela on June 12, 2004, 12:13:21 am I wonder if that was ironic or if he got it? Oh well, problem solved anyhow. And it IS in theFAQ as well.
On a completely unrelated note, I think I shall begin spamming our FAQ's to everyone on the internet (yes, everyone, even you! That's right, I'm looking at you. Don't think your safe behind that screen of yours). This would ensure more traffic for the site, preaching the good word of UQM (which is good), and it'd ensure that when people arrive, they already know what to do about the Mycon! Another brilliant solution. Title: Re: Help with mycon Post by: Death 999 on June 12, 2004, 09:03:35 pm Spamming, like violence, is never the answer
Title: Re: Help with mycon Post by: ChainiaC on June 12, 2004, 09:17:30 pm I dont think that applies in every situation. Granted, if there is an alternative to violence/spamming then that alternative is most likely the better option, hower that is not always the case.
Title: Re: Help with mycn Post by: Lukipela on June 12, 2004, 09:54:41 pm But what if the alternative to spamming is violence, or vice versa?
Then you'd find yourself in quite a bind. Title: Re: Help with mycon Post by: FalconMWC on June 12, 2004, 10:27:31 pm Speaking of spamming, I heard from a newspaper what Bill Gates solution for it is. He wants to charge for email, think that woul;d keep spam down. Thinking about it, that would work, except that I get spam from our regular postal service. Actually, I am only fifteen, but I have been offered over twenty credit cards even though the age limit is 16.

They wants to charge for violence, think that woul;d keep it down. Thinking about it, that would work, except that I get violence from our regular bar patrons. Actually, I am only twentytwo but I have been offered over twenty death threats even though the age limit is 25.
Title: Re: Help with mycon Post by: RDH_An-R-Kist on June 12, 2004, 11:20:30 pm Hey I got one for ya, why is spam called spam?
Who came up with the idea to call completely irrelevant posting/emailing spam? Why didn't they call it Spork, spork is better than spam. Perhaps we need Spam-blockers, much like Pop-up Blockers. Why am I ranting on like this? I hereby petition everyone to quite refering to utterly useless crap as spam, instead lets call it "Bill Gates" Title: Re: Help with mycon Post by: FalconMWC on June 12, 2004, 11:31:22 pm The word spam reminds me of this small chuckle.
If corn oil comes from corn, were does baby oil come from? Title: Re: Help with mycon Post by: Novus on June 12, 2004, 11:48:45 pm Quote Hey I got one for ya, why is spam called spam? It's a reference to the spam sketch (http://bau2.uibk.ac.at/sg/python/Scripts/TheSpamSketch) in Monty Python episode 25. Slime Posing As Meat...SPAM Title: Re: Help with mycon Post by: ChainiaC on June 13, 2004, 02:14:22 pm Oh really? ghe cool :)
But that applies to the food product spam, not the unwanted email. Title: Re: Help with mycon Post by: Lukipela on June 14, 2004, 01:42:05 am S**t Posing As Mail, naturally.

Title: Re: Help with mycon Post by: Culture20 on June 14, 2004, 11:50:29 pm Quote It's an acronym! Slime Posing As Meat...SPAM Shoulder of Pork and hAM A friend of mine owned http://www.spam.org back in 1995, and he kept getting threatening letters from Hormel. They were humorous to read through. It appears that someone else owns spam.org now. The worst thing about spam isn't that you can't block it (that's easy to do), it's that more and more internet traffic is spam. This doesn't affect the end users too much, but it hurts companies (which will eventually charge higher prices). I think someone said nearly 15% of all internet traffic is spam now. That's a lot of wasted bandwidth, and it's bandwidth directed only at email servers, so from an email server's point of view, it might have 40% wasted packets. bleh. edit: random appropriate comic: http://www.ucomics.com/foxtrot/2004/06/14/ |
