Title: Spathi Plot Hole?
Post by: Sander Scamper on July 12, 2004, 10:20:42 pm
I am very sorry if this has been discussed before ( I did look pretty far into the records).

The Evil Ones that reside on Spathiwa (the ones who like sweet spathi flesh) are so ferocious, they made the Spathi migrate to their moon.
When they were 'rapidly subjugated' by the Ur-Quan, they chose to be placed on Spathiwa under a slave shield. However the Umgah switched the rods, and they became battle thralls.
Now for the perceived Cluck up : Why did the Spathi want to be imprisoned onto Spathiwa, with the Evil Ones?

Did they have some new technology to battle the Evil Ones?  If so, why did they have to wait for YOU to kill them all? Even if they're THAT cowardly, surely they wouldnt have waited for so long if they were capable? I don't think anyone could be that biased with that type of Risk VS Reward situation.

I think this is an oversight, and although I may have missed something, I'm pretty sure thats the general gist of it.

Well, they had to wait for you to kill them all because youa s a human are not affected by the Evil ones as opposed to the spathi.

That comes AFTER the decision to imprison themselves on Spathiwa, they had no way of knowing anyone would come along to eliminate the Evil Ones.

yes, the Evil Ones (aka Cute Teddy Bears) were put there only after the Spathi became battle thralls.

Well if I remember correctly that is not true. It was in fact becouse of the 'evil one' invasion that the Spathi where forced to evolve technologically from stone age to space faring in under 400 years.

Well, did they say they wanted to be imprisoned on Spathiwa or did they say they wanted to be imprisoned on their home world? After so much time one might figure that their home world was the moon.

Considering how nice the Ur-Quan were about find the Syreen a home, they might have promised to clear the Evil-Ones as part of the Spathi deal.  Since the Spathi "chose" Thrall status, the Evil Ones didn't need to be cleared.

I guess that does make sense... but the Spathi themselves really do consider their world to be their homeworld, not the moon.
And the Spathi definately did have the Evil Ones long before the Urquan came along, it says so, in fact if the Evil Ones hadnt catapulted Spathi tech along, i doubt theyd have moved off planet by now.
