Has anyone considered making a plugin which creates statistics from melee and gameplay? IE, how many battles lost, Airlou VS Mycon losses so forth..

Not as a plugin though (there would have to be (small) changes throughout the code). This shouldn't be too hard to do, and I expect you'll see a version at some time which contains this option. It can be a while before anyone notices you if you say something. It's not a continuous chat event. It's the prime communication method between developers. And between the developers and the remixing team too. It's a good place if you have code questions or something like that. If you just want to chat about SC2, you're probably better off on #starcontrol on EFNet, if that's still alive.
