Title: Program too big to fit in memory ??
Post by: Mr Kroll on October 07, 2004, 08:44:11 pm
Ok .. I've downloaded the installer for XP, but when I try to run it - i just get the message "Program too big to fit in memory".

Please tell me that I don''t need to stuff around with DOS settings ... (some other form of instruction would be good too).

You don't need to stuff around DOS settings -- this is not a DOS-mode program. However, it requires a heck of a lot more memory than the original.

If he has enough RAM to run XP properly ( >128MB), then XP should have allocated enough swap space for UQM to run (or especially the installer, if that's what won't run).  Given that XP's default pagefile changes size dynamically makes me think he's got an OS issue instead of a UQM/installer issue.

BTW meep, losing what you typed in this field just because you forgot to type a name suxxors big time.   :'(

I think he's talking about the installer. I indeed recall there having been some problems like this with it. I don't know the exact details, but we have already reached the conclusion that for a future release we do need a better installer.

Complain to the writers of YaBB, or better yet, submit a patch to them. :)
