Title: Compiling UQM with 3do .duk intro/ending
Post by: Sa-Matra on October 11, 2004, 11:27:28 am
Hi all. I own SCII for 3do, and I've managed to extract the .duk format intro/ending cinematics onto my hard drive. i'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to incorporate them into uqm. thanks!

You need the CVS version of UQM. (You can use one of the snapshots if you're on Windows).
In the "content" directory where the game is installed, create a directory "slides", create in that dir a directory "ending", and put there victory.duk, victory.frm, victory.hdr, and victory.tbl.
In the "slides" dir also create a directory "intro", and put intro.duk, intro.frm, intro.hdr, and intro.tbl there.
Then the beginning and ending movies should be displayed (though it may crash on slow or very busy systems (a known problem).
The ship selection movies can't be played yet from the game (though I guess you could rename them so one gets played instead of the intro, if you really want to see them).

Thanks alot, meep-eep, however, I still can't get it working.  :'( I've created the "slides" directory, subsequently created the "intro" and "ending" folders, and placed the respective 3do files into them. If I am missing a step, please let me know. If not, can you please explain the instructions in more detail? Thank you.

P.S. I downloaded the latest snapshot. Is this what I need to run the videos?

You need to put the slides dir in the content dir that is used when the game is run.

So you've got:
content/packages/uqm-0.3-content.zip
content/packages/uqm-0.3-3domusic.zip
content/packages/uqm-0.3-voice.zip
content/slides/ending/victory.duk
content/slides/ending/victory.frm
content/slides/ending/victory.hdr
content/slides/ending/victory.tbl
content/slides/intro/intro.duk
content/slides/intro/intro.frm
content/slides/intro/intro.hdr
content/slides/intro/intro.tbl
content/version

Then just run the game, and don't press anything. In a few seconds the intro should come up.

The latest snapshot should indeed work.

Is there going to be an instruction bit or faq on this in the future?  I'd like to give this a try also.

Thanks alot, meep-eep. It works like a charm, I just had to extract the duk files again. i did it too fast, and they ended up corrupted. now everything is great. feels like 3do, but it's windows!    ;D

I've added it to the new FAQ (http://uqm.stack.nl/wiki/index.php?title=The_Ur-Quan_Masters_Technical_FAQ) in the Ultronomicon.
