Title: International Fanbase Post by: Halleck on November 08, 2004, 12:39:38 pm It seems to me that the fanbase for Star Control is truly worldwide. I'm curious about the exact spread- it seems to me that there are a lot of fans from northern Europe. Anyway, where does everyone live?
I hail from California, USA, athough I'm loathe to admit it after this last election. :-[ Title: Re: International Fanbase Post by: VOiD on November 08, 2004, 02:15:54 pm Quote It seems to me that the fanbase for Star Control is truly worldwide. Ì think the stats for the Precursors home page could be a gauge of sorts as to what nationalities are represented in the fanbase. Out of more than 22,000 visits to the page, 47% hails from the US, with Finland number two at 14%. Canada is third with 7.9%, and then there's Norway, Australia, UK, Israel, Germany, South Africa and the Netherlands with values from 3.2 to 1.3 %. Countries with less than 1%, or 200, hits on the page include Sweden, New Zealand, Spain, Singapore, Hungary, Denmark, Poland, Ukraine, Japan, Portugal, France, Italy, Malaysia and Bulgaria. Fairly good world wide spread I'd say, although South America seems a little underrepresented. I'm Norwegian, by the way. Title: Re: International Fanbase Post by: TiLT on November 08, 2004, 02:19:57 pm You've got to realize that Star Control 2 was released at a time where the USA had barely noticed the growth of entertainment on PCs. At the time, northern Europe was the centre of all things PC, especially music and demos. I think the stats somewhat represent that.
Title: Re: International Fanbase Post by: Arne on November 08, 2004, 04:17:29 pm Something smells fishy. Why does Finland have 14% and Sweden just 1% ?
Sweden has almost 2x the population, plus the computer/internet density is very high. Maybe the Soumi boys are much more into that type of music. I just downladed it btw. It is sweet. Anyone knows the stats for the UQM page? Sweden used to be pretty large on the demo and 'cracker' scene, btw. A lot of the former crackers are working in game development today, hehe. Title: Re: International Fanbase Post by: TiLT on November 08, 2004, 04:26:34 pm When it comes to music from the SC2-era, Sweden may have been big, but Finland was absolutely *massive*. No other country was remotely near their quality and productivity, not to mention interest. I think that explains those statistics.

Title: Re: International Fanbase Post by: VOiD on November 09, 2004, 05:51:26 pm Quote Fascinating! Is that counted by hits or unique visitors? Just hits, I guess. There are waaay more countries represented, btw; I just didn't bother listing them all. If you're interested, just go to the Precursors page (http://www.medievalfuture.com/precursors), and click that little blue icon on the bottom right of the opening page. All the stats you'll ever need, right there. Title: Re: International Fanbase Post by: Fsi-Dib on November 09, 2004, 06:20:50 pm Espoo (one of the three cities in the Capital Area), Finland. So sue me.

Funny, There aren't much Dutch people here... And still it says above 1%.... Title: Re: International Fanbase Post by: Tiberian on November 10, 2004, 01:43:40 am I sue you, Fsi-Dib, since I'm from Espoo too. Haukilahti to be exact.

Quote I hail from California, USA, athough I'm loathe to admit it after this last election. I don't see why... California is almost always a blue state in the elections. Do we even have any red-staters here? Title: Re: International Fanbase Post by: Terminator on November 10, 2004, 06:57:23 pm Celebrities protest things, makes people quite soft. However my state New York plays second-fiddle to them, you won't find a dumber or softer population unless you go to California. Speaking of idiots in California, get a load of this http://www.reopen911.org/.
Some idiot in California is trying to convince New Yorkers that 9-11 was created by the government, in order to boost the economy via war requiring the building of weapons of war, which is a bit far-fetched, let alone for New Yorkers to accept, I never seen such ridiculous logic, since Monty Python. Title: Re: International Fanbase Post by: Art on November 10, 2004, 07:57:01 pm The election is over, dude. No need to keep going on about it.
(You might want to consider, though, that since NY and CA contain the two biggest cities in the country, that it's not because people there happen to be more stupid or gullible that you see wacko movements coming out of them -- just that there's a lot more people to talk to.) Title: Re: International Fanbase Post by: Lukipela on November 11, 2004, 06:40:18 pm Well, you could always try and revive this topic (http://uqm.stack.nl/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Gendiscuss;action=display;num=1049828713;start=0) both for introductions and to see who used to be hot around here.. Maybe someone ought to move it to the café?
Oh, and Finland here as well. Title: Re: International Fanbase Post by: alpharomeo81 on November 21, 2004, 07:55:47 am Costa Rica, Central America
