Title: How about DS? Post by: STraydog on December 01, 2004, 12:14:59 am Wouldnt it be awesome if Starcontrol 2 were to be ported to the nintendo DS? The system has all the capabilities required for at LEAST a non voiced version of the game. The touch screen would be good to navigate menus, and the starmap...any comments?
Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: 0xDEC0DE on December 01, 2004, 03:03:04 am That would be pretty cool. Let us know how it goes, and post some links when you've got a playable version of it ready for us to test.

Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: Zeep-Eeep on December 01, 2004, 07:44:25 am You know what would be great?!?!? A port of the game
to the C64! Oh yeah. It already has the colour support and the joystick is easy to handle in BASIC. Melee might be a little slow... Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: VOiD on December 01, 2004, 08:32:01 am Quote Melee might be a little slow... Not if we convert the artwork to ascii. Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: Rib Rdb on December 01, 2004, 10:12:30 am Darn. I was just going to ask about a DS port as a joke. What's with people posting these game related topics to the Starbase Cafe anyways?
Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: Rib Rdb on December 01, 2004, 10:14:11 am By the way, the UQM music sounds great on the DS.
Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: Halleck on December 01, 2004, 10:30:52 am I don't get the DS. What's the big deal? There's another screen... with a map on it?
Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: Rib Rdb on December 02, 2004, 04:16:57 am Well, the stylus is awesome. I didn't trust developers to use it well after what I saw at E3, but they did a great job on Mario (the only game I've played).
I think that's the best part, but the dual screens, powerful hardware, microphone, and wireless are also all new things to the handheld console world, and it will be interesting to see how well they are used. Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: Death 999 on December 03, 2004, 01:10:44 am I think we should port UQM to not merely the Commodore 64 and Colecovision platforms -- Atari 2600 too! I'm sure players will get used to flipping the difficulty select switch to alternate between primary and secondary weapons.
We should also make sure to port it to the Babbage machine in case we get sent back in time. Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: Shiver on December 03, 2004, 01:56:39 am HAY GUYS LETS PUT STAR CONTROL TWO ON PUNCH CARDS! THERE'S NOTHING MORE AWESOME THAN PUNCH CARDS!!!

Post by: dfhdfh on December 03, 2004, 02:22:39 am Quote We should also make sure to port it to the Babbage machine in case we get sent back in time. I'd hate to have to crank the stupid thing fast enough to make melee playable. ;D Why not make a Turing Machine version of SC2 so that Mathematicians and Computer Scientists can play it on dry-erase boards? ::) Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: dfhdfh on December 03, 2004, 02:24:18 am Edit: Then you could prove conclusively what ship is best.
Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: THE_AMAZING_NEMT on December 05, 2004, 08:04:12 pm Nintendo is going to be in DS when they realize this thing is big, ugly, and everyone already played Mario 64 in 1996.
Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: Lukipela on December 05, 2004, 11:53:24 pm Why does the name NEMT ring a bell? I seem to recall someonel iek that shifting out as i shifted in.

NEMT was a huge turd, trust me. You don't want to know him. I think he was banned. Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: grayfox777 on February 28, 2005, 11:54:25 pm That would rule! But... I'd rather see a brand-new Star Control game for the DS.... but that's dreaming, either way. :-/
Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: michael on March 17, 2005, 06:38:50 am hmmm I took some programing...I might be able to port it(with a LOT of help) if I learned the ds code but it is moot because there are no flash cards.
Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: Halleck on March 17, 2005, 09:31:46 am I recall that someone implemented super-melee on GBA. Maybe someone could start with that if they wanted to do a DS port.
Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: Mark Vera on March 17, 2005, 05:18:12 pm I suppose it would be very possible with PlayStation Portable. It has large enough screen and power to run such old game.
http://ukpsp.com/ Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: michael on March 17, 2005, 11:42:43 pm yeah but you'd have to have load times.
Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: Halleck on March 18, 2005, 04:19:01 am It shouldn't be much of an issue. The PSP has about he same power as a PS One, so I'm told, which is at about the same level as a 3do, correct?
Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: michael on March 18, 2005, 06:16:32 am I think closer to ps2. ds is about n64.
Title: Re: How about DS? Post by: Halleck on March 18, 2005, 06:22:36 am Oh yeah? Then it would be a non-issue on the PSP.
