Title: Druuge... and slave trade.
Post by: Zero^ on December 08, 2002, 02:10:04 am
Is there any way to get the items needed to fix the Ultron from the Druuge without trading your crew?
I had some morale issues in selling earthlings to people who like to hang them selfs with chains from the roof.... KWEH!  :(

I think they'll take a mycon egg shell if you can find an extra one.

slight spoiler regarding the egg shells...

**************SPOILER

there are (I think) 3 egg shells.  I think you can trade 2 to the druuge, 1 for the precursor part you need and the OTHER, they give you some interesting options.  my favorite is the fuel fillup option.  Just go to the starbase fill ALL your slots with high capacity fuel tanks, take the minimum fuel you need to get to druuge space, and make the trade. The druuge will even make some comment about you screwing them over

/END SPOILER

They also accept your Portal Spawner I believe, but that's an idiotic thing to give away.

Them giving you the item needed to fix the Ultron is a sort of random deal.  Every one or two times you offer to give something special of yours (Portal Spawner, Mycon Deep Children, etc.), they'll offer to give you one of their three special items back *instead* of Mauler starships and/or fuel.  I'd save or decline their standard offer and try again later until they give you the specialty offers.

They say that they'd really like to have their burvix caster back...might be able to make a trade.

That too.  I knew there was an item I forgot.  2 of 3 Mycon Deep Children, the Portal Spawner, and the Burvixese Caster are the three specialty items they'll take.

Thanks Azrael.

I just remembered, I think they'll take the shofixti maidens as well

Indeed. A dozen Shofixti maidens for six Druuge Maulers and a probable ticket to Hell in the afterlife.

Why would they want the eggshells anyways?

Title: Just use shofixti

Once the Shofixti have joined your alliance, they are really <itching> to find nasty ends for themselves in order to advance the war.  What better way for them to do this than for 100 to load up in your mothership and be sold as starship crew to the Druudge.

Anyway, they'll puck up the Druudge fleet by trying to kamikaze anyway.

I thought I recall that selling your crew to the Druuge makes buying new crew at the starbase really expensive because nobody wants to join you after that ... can you blame them?

I mean, look at those Druuge guys ... they look like bats, they sacrifice their own crew, they hang from the ceiling with chains clamped to their legs, they showed their appreciation for the Burvixese warning about the Kohr-Ah by screwing them over and if you look REAL careful (always made me laugh) they need a tissue to wipe their runny nose.

I'll give them this ... they do have some of the coolest head-banging music in the game ... that electric guitar sound just screamed, "Yeah, we're bad!".  I didn't need Trade Master Greenish to warn me that these guys were trouble.  One look, one listen and their opening dialog ... you just knew these guys were BAD news.

I always knew about the Mycon egg pod ... how else to convince the Syreen to join your cause, but I never knew there was more than the one.  I just remember selling the Burvixese caster back to them for the Red Orb.

That fuel thing sounds absolutely hilarious, I've got to try that.

It's especially fulfilling to fill up your ship with tons of fuel tanks and then trade an egg shell for max. fuel.  Ahhh... ripping off the Drudge.

Where are these egg-shells? I only ever found one Mycon egg-shell i.e. the one they tell you about. Where are the other two?

They're hidden around the galaxy.  I believe the Melnorme will tell you about them, as they tell you about everything else in the game :-P

Actually Azarule, I checked.  The Melnorme never mention where to find the Mycon Egg Cases.  In fact, the only one who seems to mention anything about the Mycon in terms of useful artifacts are the Yehat.

***SPOILER Location of Mycon Egg Cases SPOILER***

Ok, I decided to go and search their space and I have found three.  They are on shattered worlds in:

B. Copernicus  G. Brahe  G. Scorpii

I also did the fuel fill-up trick with the Druuge.  I figure you leave Earth with 16 units of fuel, use the Portal Spawner (which uses 10), fly to coordinates 488:538 in Quasi-Space, fly to Z. Persei ... takes about 5 units of fuel.  Go to the first planet.  Since I wasn't going to save this, I decided to sell the portal spawner to see this.  I ended up with 1510 fuel units and further enjoyment of this game.
I never even conceived that you could pull such a dirty trick.  After trading the Burvixese caster for the Red Orb, I usually never went back to the Druuge again.  I dislike the idea of selling my crew and if I recall, it does make the purchase of new crew expensive.  And selling the Spawner or Shofixti Females is idiotic.  I don't care for the Druuge Mauler, so I saw no reason ever to return even to trade the Mycon Egg Cases and then sell off the Maulers ... I wouldn't even waste the fuel.

Thanks flashbacck for showing me that even an old game has new surprises.

I found 2 without even trying, I thought it was pretty easy actually... near their homeworld or whatever, the couple of solar systems have shattered worlds very close to the sun, almost like the rainbow worlds...

See, even someone like Mage can find them ... what ... no, I didn't mean ... no ... come on ... I didn't mean it that way ...

;D

Speaking in terms of the original SC2 game, I always was able to trade a Mycon Egg Shell for the red orb.  Then I'd go back with fuel tanks and trade them the caster for all the fuel my ship could hold, then go back to base and subtract out the fuel for RU....real neat way to build your RU too.  1000 units X 20 RU = 20000RU.  I do this with the Melnorme too once I buy all the technology and have something like 2000 credits left or whatever (you don't have to buy the information he has to finish the game).

I do very little mining (enough to get my thrusters and landers and support my missions) for the sake of mining...often times I just leave my cargo bay there and pick up all the radioactives off the rainbow worlds and the shattered worlds - it works to support my missions if I have to.

I believe the Druuge inform you that they use the eggshell's fungal fibers to create inescapble slave harnesses for their slave crew. Which to be honest, makes me feel a bit less enthusiastic about selling them the egg cases. But still better than 50 of your crew, I suppose.

Yes, it feels quite amusing to see the '1610' fuel units listed on the screen. An easy 32200 RU, pretty much most of what you need to completely outfit your Precursor ship with everything you could want. (except a complete armada of fighting ships).

I wonder if you can do this with both the Burvix Caster and the Mycon Shell, or if the Druuge refuses to fall for the same ploy twice...

I've never had the Trader offer the fuel refill for the Eggshells in the PC version, though-- he only offers me a Mauler starship. So as far as I know, you can only do this trick with the Caster (unless you really want to trade the Portal Spawner or the Shofixiti females.)

And the Druuge wailing and gnashing his teeth is quite fulfilling.

I'd never sell the Shofixti maidens to the Druuge, even if there was zero chance of the Shofixti returning, just because of what they plan to do with them.

It has come to our attention that you have female Shofixti creatures on board your ship. We have the means to fertilize these creatures artificially allowing us to produce a hybrid beast to attend our furnaces.
A hybrid "beast" to "attend" their furnaces indeed. I'm sure it would be quite a boon to have a quickly-reproducing slave race that can be chucked into a furnace to generate some easy firepower.

The Druuge are one of the few races in the game that are genuinely evil.

They use the fungal mats as super-strong netting to keep their slaves in line.  At least that's what I read in the background stories on some of the sites around...
