I planned making this a big one but since I can't do it now there's the start HF (http://uqm.stack.nl/files/other/slylendro/YEHATvsMYCON.avi)

Very good job so far.  Add a couple VUX in there somewhere and it'll be beyond awesome. :)

Not bad. I really like your sleek Yehat design.
I'd love to see a short scene of the Mycon landing a shot
on a Yehat's shield.

*drooling*

The Yehat move alittle slow and the beginning run kinda bothers me....

Instead of the red glow... it would be cool to have re-glowing particles shoot out of where they are hit (It's hot in there I'm assuming thats some kinda melted metal)

The yehats bullets move alittle too slow and were very closely grouped  hmm that also bothered me....

Overall interesting... makes me want to finish mine... but bah does my Ur-quan cruser suck... mabye I'll just make a mycon since they are easy (I got some shofixti fighters)

Few quick questions:

THe mycons plasma... are they HOT like really hot? like being close to them would cause the ship to heat up at all?

The shofixti glory device... it's explosive... but is it... explosive if you hit it or superheat it?

Heheh I got some AWSOME ideas for this battle... 3 wings of shofixti against 3 mycon... :D (wings as in 3 a piece)

Even though that seems unlikely (Mycon are sitting ducks to shofixti...) I'm gonna make them more... hmm interesting.... anyway yeah....

ALSO how does the mycon ball attract? is it magnetic or something?

(right click save as for the love of GOD)

Small flyby he's sliding to his right as he turns left it's interesing.... hmm so the battle starts... =D

Wewt I have about 6 videos so far mabye a total of 20 seconds of video hmm got way more to do :P

I know the mycon plasma ball is large... since they are slow in game I made them LARGE ships (probably 3 shofixti can fly into the "mouth" of it... why would they want to it's a plasma death trap....)

The plasma in the last image is frying the shofixti ship... hopefully I can get some awsome effects in there... :D

I've asked this before...

But does anyone know any thing I can use to make a voice sound more... Shofixti like?

I want to put in radio chatter and such... it would add to it more than just music and sound effects (also it would be nice to "update" the sound effects to have better sounds)

Any idea of software I could use?

You could try playing with the pitch and tone of a human voice with a program such as audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/).
You could also try exctracting the shofixti voice straight out of the UQM voice package,

Edit: Post 100! w00t.

I can extract what kantana says (or whatever his name is) but I need more like chatter about the mycon and such....

Thanks though mabye this can work....

I've heard Chaieee about 4 thousand times now....

I'm listening to all the sound clips trying to get a feel for their voice... hmm it's gonna be interesting =\ hmm

Hello,

Not sure about UQM but there is some plugin for Cool Edit 2000 ( a sound editing program) that changes your voice into some scifi voice (for example a Star Wars Stormtrooper or Vader, Battlestar Galactica and a few more).
From what it looked like, it simply changes the settings automatically for the user. Thus I can imagine that you can create any kind of voice if you play around with the settings manually (pitch, tone etc).

By the way, how do you make those cool graphics we see in the video in this thread? What programs do you need and what skills are required?

I used 3D studio Max (4... eww) and have been using it for about... 3 years now? Took some classes on a similar 3d program... spent lots of time reading tutorials and making lots of objects....

Done a few projects (3d models of buildings and other spacecraft, water and effects and particles... splines and mesh and NURBS)

Hardest part is thinking about art in 3D.... really you'd think it was easy... but you can't just click click aand click and you got a ship... (well once you get good enough it can seem like that) but you got quite a few tools and a bajillion techniques...

I've also used Softimage, Zmodeler, milkshape (once)

I would rank them in the order I mentioned them (3ds max first)

3Ds max can run you a couple grand... I'm looking for a company that can hire me to do professional work for basically a trade of the software (sometimes companies can get it alittle cheaper) Otherwise I think I can get it for about a hundred or so for an older version (5 before shipping from germany.... bah....) they have 7 out now... suppose to be awsome....

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. That's a start... I have no clue about all that and I consider myself as untalented in drawing (at least back in school ;) ).
Are there any tutorials or books or so you would recommend for a beginner?

Title: Re: short movie - Yehat vs Mycon

FYI, not all 3d suites cost money.  Case-in-point:
Blender (http://www.blender3d.org/), which is pretty top-notch in my opinion. Another good one which I've been using recently is Wings 3d (http://www.wings3d.com/). It's pretty simple, but powerful enough for most kinds of modelling. If you're just starting off, I'd reccomend you check out Wings- I find it's particularly well-suited to modelling starships.
You're probably going to want to use another program for rendering your wings meshes, though.

Thanks, any recommendations for beginners regarding tutorials and/or books regarding "how to use this software" and drawing/rendering?

Well, before I got 3ds Max 7 (I got lucky thanks to a FIRST team..) I used animator and that had a very good built in tutorial.

(Its also free.... :-D - the trial version I had anyway is)

Uh... you used Advanced GIF Animator for modelling? Amazing.

I was referring to the part, "how to use software" and figured that he might want to try just the animating part. (once you have the gif).

Oh, I was just flipping through the archives.  I'd like to make stuff like this too.  What do you need? Can someone recommend an easy animation maker and explain to me how to make a short video? :D

An easy animation program?  Dude, animation is hard.  It's a craft, a learned skill, and the learning curve is a bitch.

An exercise for you:  Go watch "Finding Nemo" (a great movie, BTW) and afterwards, pay attention to the ending credits.  Notice how remarkably LONG they are.  Notice how many animators were required to put that little film together.  Then consider that most of them worked full-time on it for a couple of years.  Try to let the number of man-hours required to do proper animation sink in properly.

But if you've got the time, energy, patience and dedication, it can also be quite a bit of fun (and a nice career path if you're in a position to care about such things) so here are a few programs that you can look into:

Alias Maya (http://www.alias.com/eng/products-services/maya/maya_ple/index.shtml) is the industry standard, and they have a fully-functional "Personal Learning Edition" available for free that you can download and use.  The only downside to it is that it watermarks everything you render in a rather ostentacious fashion, but other than that it's pretty nice.

Blender (http://www.blender3d.org/) is a full-featured open source rendering/animation program, completely free for download/use with no restrictions.  It also has a highly supportive community of users; you can't swing a dead cat without hitting an Internet tutorial for Blender.

A lot of people are still fond of Autodesk 3D Studio (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=3422340), so I'll mention it; but it's commercial software, and piracy is SO 1990s.  ;)

Blender is an excellent program, especially since it is free. Some people say that blender is not beginner friendly, but I think it is a lot better than Maya (which brings the word "clutter" to a whole new level).

If I were you, I'd download blender and do the tutorials. Give it time, it takes practice, but if you like the work and don't give up, it will probably do everything you want it to. You should also check out the blender gallery on the site, so you can see just how powerful it is.

Also, if you want a freeware photoshop type 2D program for texture crafting and such, you should check out the GIMP.
