Title: Stuck on the Mycon (spoilerz)
Post by: Dave Morse on December 10, 2002, 12:17:39 am
I gots me the bomb, but I have to "augment" it somehow.  The only thing I can think of is to activate the Syreen.  I managed to get the gal steamed at the Mycon, and she's going to ambush them at Organnon.  I went to the Mycon's stronghold on 639.5-231.2-1, and told them how phat Organnon was.  They seemed uninterested, but maybe they were playing their cards close to their stems.  Anyhoo, I figured maybe I should make a little booty call to Organnon, but nobody was home: not the chick, not the shrooms.  I went back to Beetleguese and talked to the chick again, and she's still like: "you need to go tell the Mycon to go to Organnon and get ambushed."  Like I said above, I have already done this.  So what gives?  Is it a bug?

you have to go to where the mycon "deep children" are. take the device there and you'll have to use it at a certain place, but I won't ruin the game for ya by telling you exactly what to do with it.... play on, mate!

by the way, if you want a hint of how to use the device, highlight below:

The Mycon at the coordinates mentioned are just guards who watch over the "place of Juffo-Wup".  You need to go to where the Mycon "decision makers" are if you want them to take your suggestion seriously...

Speaking of Deep children, I've always wondered if there's any other source other than the Melnorme where you can obtain enough information to bring a case to Talana. When playing the PC version, I'd hoped that when the Arilou eventually tell you about Deep Children, that it would trigger the event, but it never did.

My understanding is the mycon themselves would tell you about it, if you looked into their systems and orbited a couple of shattered worlds, you could ask why only mycon systems have shattered worlds.

Never actually gotten it to work though

The Umgah will tell you about them when you go save them from the Dynarri.

The Umgah will only tell you abouth them being constructs, no? I think the Spati is right, there is supposed to be another way, I think you may even have to let Starbase research the eggshells and then chat with the Mycon.

Starbase research doesn't give you the conversation option. I picked up the egg case from the shattered Syra, let the researches at it, but still didn't get the option.

Typically I just buy the info.

Umm if you talk enough with the mycon ships (about 10 times at least) they will tell you about the deep children and you can go back to the Syreen and give proof (if you have the eggshell)

Buying information on alien races from the Melnorme will eventually bring up the subject of Deep Children.  They tell you where the Mycon's homeworld is, as far as I can remember.

The Pkunk will tell you too I think.  The Pkunk will tell you a lot of stuff if you just keep going back to them.

Allright, I've just been playing some more, and the mycon do in fact tell you.  Somehow.  I'm not exactly sure what the trigger response is, but they do give you the information, eventually.  It does seem to be under the responses they give to "It is now time for you to die" though.  Which is kind of odd, cause telling them to die makes them tell you interesting stuff about their physiology, while saying 'bye' makes them grow rigid and violent.

I'm almost positive the Pkunk won't tell you; I've interrogated the bird creatures to the point of almost angering them. I do know the Melnorme provide you with said info, but I asked if there was an alternative way because I am interested in seeing if you can win the game without ever purchasing any information from the Melnorme. Not to mention that it takes time out of your way to 'find' rainbow worlds, which is a dampener on the 'speed game' approach.

I've had an eggshell in my possession before without being able to bring a case to Talana, so I know that mere possession (or even Starbase analysis) of the Mycon eggshell isn't enough to trigger the conversation option.

But, from your guys' accounts, it sounds as if interrogating (many) Mycon ships will work. (which should be no problem in systems where there are about 20 fleets surrounding planets)

I imagine they have absolutely no intention of allowing you to depart a conversation with them without obliterating you, which is why they will always grow 'turgid with Juffo-Wup' and 'violence ensues'. Occassionally they 'grow turgid' just from casual conversation no less, if they don't have the patience to listen to you blather on and on.

About the only exception to a conversation that doesn't end in violence would be when you confront them at their 'special place' which I imagine is due to them being too preoccupied by 'eating' to bother with you and would rather 'shoo' you off, or when you give them a helpful suggestion. Which is when they basically invite you to become Mycon (being incorporated into Juffo-Wup is about the only way they'd tolerate your presence, I imagine.)
