Title: Black Spathi
Post by: Mr.__Fwiffo on May 08, 2005, 08:32:29 pm
Black Spathi:  I've heard you guys talk about them.  Who are they?  What's their legend?  Has anyone found them?  Where's their homeworld?  What to they do?

I was just doing some concept thumbnails for them, and I thought about the decoy compartments. Would they use them? They did use existing ships (repainted), but any future ships might be more utilitarian?

Well, since these spathi are the opposites of their counterparts, my guess is that they would be filled with extra ammunition.

Even in the game they're only a rumor.  Some people love believing that every rumor in a game reflects an easter egg or cheat that they can find in the game.  I believe Pik would refer to this as Final Fantasy Syndrome.   ::)
The nice part about SC2 is that some rumors panned out, others did not.

Spoiler:

If you really wantto find the Black Spathi Squadron, you'll have to have the Cloaking Device added to your ship.  the Black Spathi Squadron are even _more_ paranoid than regular Spathi and have painted their ships black to match the darkness of space.  You'll see them as quick black flashes across the stars in Spathi controlled systems.  You can only sneak up on them when your ship is cloaked.

Spoiler to the Spoiler:

The above spoiler is woven utterly of whole cloth and is not to be believed.  We apologise for the fault in the spoiler. Those responsible have been sacked.

Thank you Michael, it seems I was unknowingly refering to:

# Zelda's Axiom
Whenever somebody tells you about "the five ancient talismans" or "the nine legendary crystals" or whatever, you can be quite confident that Saving the World will require you to go out and find every last one of them.

I've heard of this cloaking device before.  It's supposed to not come up on the planet scanners, thus making really hard to find.  Has any one found it?  Does anyone have a hunch where it probably is?  Maybe the programmers know...

Where do here the rumor in the game?

Maybe the Black Spathi are better cowards then normal spathi.  Why else would they paint their ships black?  So they could hide better in the darkness of space.  Bright colors are a terrible choice for beings that do nothing but run and hide.  Which probably also explains why you don't see them at all in the game.

I even had a spoiler about the spoiler.  Did I need a spoiler about the spoiler spoiler, saying "believe the spoiler's spoiler.  C20's original spoiler was just pulling your leg"?   :o   ;)
