Title: Favorite Sneaky Wins
Post by: Almo on May 09, 2005, 08:31:24 pm
What wins do you guys like pulling off?

I like beating anything bigger with the Supox by moving funny so they miss.  ;D

I like taking stuff out long range with the Mauler. Very much fun if you can get your aim down.

And if you can manage to lick someone to death with the ZoqFotPik, that's fun.

Sort of reminds me of taking out a Galleon with a Pinnache in Pirates!

My first selection against an Avatar is a Mauler.

I prefer to defeat a Jugger with an Intruder.

Against all big ships I like to use a Scout.

What's always fun to me is taking out a Kohr-Ah with a VUX.  ;D

or a Chmmr with a Yehat....

or a Shofixti with an Arilou by teleporting as he detonates...

or a .... (I could go on with things that would surprise you and shock you)

I loved using the Thraddash against all ships (well, except for the Utwig and Kohr-ah).  It could run quickly using it's afterburners, and it's bullet was pretty long-ranged and could withstand 2 hits, meaning that it could get past even the Avatar's defenses... ;D

It makes for long-drawn out games, though; I suspect some of my wins were because my opponent gave up. :P

Kohr-ah are toast, unless you're playing against someone who gets real patient and only uses FRIED.

Mmrnmhrm vs. anything that's not too fast (and not Chmmr)...
:)
Pellet them to death, slowly.. :)

Mmrnmhrm vs. Utwig is pretty easy, just deliberately MISS the Utwig, so he uses shield but gets no energy... (Do that by shooting way off ofcourse)..

Same goes for Spathi vs. Utwig (but that is easier, since spathi can shoot BUTT from the rear, ofcourse)..

I enjoy Utwig vs. Supox - not only do you break the game-long friendship :P - you also play a battle of the nerves with your friend when/if you fire. Its always fine to see them keep twitching over that shield button......  :)

The coolest kill I've gotten was in SC1, when I pinned a Mycon to the planet with DOGIs.

Killing a Mycon with a Shofixti by steering its own plasmoids into it is likely too common, but always brings a smile to my face.

I like completing the main campaign, the usual way. Brings a great big smile to my face every time. Call me weird. :-/

This may or may not be sneaky, but I've become great with the Thraddash.  Slow ships are easy to lure into your trails, but the fast ships like the Pkunk easily avoid them.  So I discovered that, when the ships are near the planet, the computer will take the opportunity to whip over the opportunity to avoid the Thraddash's trails.  This works wonders against the fast ships.

Heh. :P

I've "discovered" a nice sneaky win today, when I ended up with an Utwig vs Utwig battle..

Ofcourse, such a battle.. well.. is able to never end...
So me and the compu were shielding and gunning away, when I bounced off an asteroid, went away from my enemy, and saw the planet some pretty far away from us.. That's when I came up with this el-neato idea, to bump my opponent in it, and hold him there... Magically, this idea worked, and victory was mine. :P

"Grip of death", I tell ya!

What is "the usual way" of completing the campaign?

Why, not losing, of course! :D

All the wins against my cousin with various ships, when I have hit him etc. This can be done with any ship, just hit your opponent or do something else to catch his attention. 8)

I have also had sneaky losses; just when my cousin was winning, I pulled the plug off the computer. Afterwards I claimed that I would have won.

Basically, killing anything by exploting it is a favourite sneaky victory as far as I'm concerned!

For example, killing Utwigs with Mmrnmhrm (as has been mentioned).

Also good is killing Chmmr with Chenjesu. Wait till they tractor beam you....and then when you are next them (and facing them) here go the crystal shards..... either they ack-ack and destroy the zap sats, but, most of the time, will actually go into the Chmmr itself. Talk about tactics backfiring....  ;)
Thing is, it works almost everytime too....

Launching limpet after limpet at an immobile Pkunk as it fires in vain and curses wildly, and then moving in and blowing it away, is not particularily sneaky but is it ever fun. Unfortunately, a possible rebound ruins the whole thing.

It's not really a sneaky win, other than the fact that most folks who don't know how I play the game very well are always taken in by it.  My favorite ship to kill an Ur-Quan with is an Arilou, flying between it's shots, blasting it down, and warping out as he launches fighters.

Most outright bizzare win though would have to be the time my Pkunk respawned on me *17* times.  Can't fight with Pkunks worth a damn, but when they just keep coming it gets very hard to overcome.   :P
