Title: UQM Mapping Project Proposal
Post by: General_Mayhem on June 14, 2005, 11:57:33 am
This forum is terrific!  I have already laid to rest two literally decade-long theories in one day.  Here's the last one:

Has anyone ever considered a thorough mapping of the UQM universe?

If we have enough people, we can each take a sector of the map and explore each star and planet (even the gas giants, just in case there are more Slylandro) and see exactly what is at or on them and compile all the information!

If someone has already done this please let me know via this thread.

I guess we could just do it the boring way and look at the source code, but does this sound like an interesting project to anyone, or is it just me?   ??? :-[ :P

You're talking to a forum consisting mostly of developers and lazy folk.  ;)

My guess is that the general consensus will be "look at the source code".

Generally you'll find with a 15 y/o game that the answer is usually "it's all been done".

Beyond the obvious spots for in-game quests, the only other interests are bio and minerals.  There are numerous top 10 lists for those things, including one I know I put in here regarding exotics.

I believe you might want to check out http://uqm.chumbucket.org amongst other numerous references.

What Captain Smith said..

Besides, the SC2 universe -for mapping purposes- just isn't big enough, unfortunately...

If you want to go into mapping stuff, there are other games like that... or maybe just one game... Noctis IV (http://anywherebb.com/noctis.html)
Unfortunately, it's been kind of dead, mapping wise... Though a mod of it, Noctis IV CE (http://noctis.sl.ecwhost.com/) (which, coindicentally, I myself am working on, together with someone else... Shameless, subliminal plug, eh? :) )

But yeah, if you want to do UQM mapping, the only thing left is a detailed map/graphic of each and every planet, along with it's planet data (tilt, rotation time, etc)... But that is just WAY hard to do, unless you mod UQM to put all this data in a neat database...

I could take part of this :P It could be fun, if there are enough people to do it with me :)

People have made a database in the past, but I don't know where it is... perhaps there's a copy in the database on PONAF (can't help more I'm afraid).

I have the old Star Control 2 clue book sitting around (think I got stuck trying to fix the Utwig gizmo bad and picked it up, originally) and in the book it lists all systems' RU and credit value totals.  Something like that what you had in mind?

***WARNING*** RESOURCE SPOILER BELOW ***WARNING***

Examples:

Star System............Mineral Totals..............Bio Totals
...........................and best worlds...........and best worlds
Arae Epsilon...........364 (1,2).......................0
Geminorium Beta....4,245 (1a,1c,3b)............105 (1b,4,1a)
Sol........................4,008 (5a,1,5b)...............0
Delta Aurigae........11,005 (7,2a,1b)..............256 (2,1b,1a)

Delta Aurigae is listed as 1st in overall resources.  Broken to minerals and bio seperately, it ranks 5th and 11th.  Best mineral system is Beta Scorpii, and best life world is Gamma Geminorium.

Thanks, but no.  I have that booklet too.  What I am looking for is what is in the rest of the universe...  all the nooks and crannies that we don't have to explore in order to finish the game --principally to see if there is anything special in the unexplored territory.
