Title: Installing! (noob)
Post by: karmah on June 27, 2005, 08:33:37 pm
'lo people,
I was introduced to the world of uqm by my dear friend prestige, who listens to the precursors remixes (which I also intesively do now). And when I visited the uqm official page i discovered that it was availible for linux too! So I downloaded the necessary files and started installing, I'm kindof a noob at linux though so now I've come to a stage where it says I haven't installed the package uqm-content, I have the .uqm file  called uqm-0.4.0-content.uqm but im not sure where to put it or extract it, I've tried putting it or extracting it in the same folder as the uqm_0.3-3_i386.deb but it didn't help. I would be very glad if I got this game working! thx in advance! :)

Ah, I discovered that I had downloaded different versions of the files. But now I believe I have the same version of everything, I put the .uqm files in the same folder as the installer but it still says that uqm-content is not installed.
Code:
sudo dpkg -i /home/karmah/Desktop/Progs/uqm/uqm_0.4.0-1_i386.deb
(Reading database ... 87035 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace uqm 0.4.0-1 (using .../Progs/uqm/uqm_0.4.0-1_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement uqm ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of uqm:
uqm depends on uqm-content (>= 0.4); however:
 Package uqm-content is not installed.
dpkg: error processing uqm (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
uqm

(Note that we're not actually involved in making the Debian packages for UQM.)

You may have got the content files, but the Debian package system only knows about software installed through its installers. So there is probably a separate package for the content (in non-free) that you would need.

If the 3DO music and voice packages  have no Debian package of their own, you can just put the .uqm files for them in the content/packages/ directory after installation. Probably something like /usr/games/share/uqm/content/packages/ or /usr/share/uqm/content/packages/
