Title: Video errors after installing, can't run
Post by: mawx on July 05, 2005, 09:34:34 pm
Hi -
I just downloaded v 0.4 and when I try to run it I get an Ur-Quan Masters window that does not repaint and nothing happens except for some music playing.  I get some errors:

The first error:

VideoDecoder_Load: Unknown file type.

This is followed by what looks like a whole bunch of ship loading stuff, and then the next error:

VideoDecoder_Load: 'DukVid' decoder did not load slides/intro/intro.duk, code 0

Then introx.ogg is not found.

Finally, it just sitrs there with two threads blocking on 'DCQ':

Starcon2Main and Unknown (probably renderer)

Is it possible my download is missing content?

I'm going to try uninstalling and redownloading/installing from a different mirror.

thanks
tom

ps sorry if this has already been solved, my weak searching probably missed it...

just an update -
I tried re-downloading and reinstalling with no success.

If I let it run for a while, it eventually will display a few screens from the intro; but still remains generally locked up.

The VideoDecoder stuff is for the DUK videos, which came with the 3DO version but which we can't distribute due to copyright reasons. They are supported if you have them yourself though.

introx.ogg missing is normal too.

The thread blocking on DCQ is usually also normal.

Why it locks up I don't know. Are you running with up-to-date video drivers and DirectX?

I'm running up-to-date DirectX, but it's a crappy integrated intel video card on my lab pc (Intel 82865G).  It recently (about a month ago) automatically installed a new driver.  Anyway, perhaps the integrated video card doesn't have the necessary features?

I'll poke around with the video and see what I can do.

thanks

You could try full-screen and OpenGL mode.

Hey! Full-screen and OpenGL works.  Thanks!
