Title: Piloting in space with real physics Post by: ar81 on July 16, 2005, 01:50:32 am I just loved Melee as you played with some ressemblance of real physics. Inertia, gravity.
You could feel you were there. Storyline was involving... Now I found an amazing freeware spacesim that is just amazing. It's name is Orbiter. It beats even Microsoft simulations. Piloting with real physics... a dream come true ...and you can make add ons if you know about C++, 3D modelling and texturing (I don't know about C++ or making 3DS files, darn). When I started playing, I couldn't believe it... Looks like freeware and opensource are producing masterpieces, just like UQM team. The only skill I had to make add ons was music, and I used opensource software from www.modplug.com which is also a masterpiece IMHO. Orbiter http://www.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/~martins/orbit/orbit.html It has no sound, so you must download Orbiter sound Orbiter sound 3.0 http://www.orbiter.dansteph.com/index.php?disp=d My orbiter add ons http://www.orbithangar.com/searchauth.cfm?search=ar81 I'd like to see some Starcon add ons for Orbiter... Unfortunately it's not a shooter, so you can't make it to fire and cause damage to other ships. Here some screenies http://img101.echo.cx/img101/2714/sh0224np.jpg http://img25.echo.cx/img25/5155/iss0050cx.jpg Title: Re: Piloting in space with real physics Post by: Kohr-Ah Death 213 on July 16, 2005, 03:50:48 am that kinda looks like celestia

Orbiter is a real simulator, if you want to get somewhere, you need to pilot using real space physics. And for those who have expereince piloting aircraft, it's a bit different to pilot in space. It's really cool. I just would like to see someone modelling a Starcon vesel and programming a virtual ship using C++ as an add on to Orbiter. It would be kind of cool. |
