Title: why does game exe try to access internet?
Post by: playerwolf on August 03, 2005, 12:06:26 am
I downloaded the "uqm-0.4.0-win32-installer.exe.

When I began installing it, my firewall notified me that this exe was trying to access the internet? Isn't this file complete? What is this exe trying to get? Seems like the download should have all that is necessary to play the game. I won't allow it to acess the internet.

When I continued the installation (without allowing it access to the net) I get an error message about the game kernal.

The installer will download the components you have selected from the internet. It itself only contains the executable, which is not enough to run the game.
If you don't want to (or can't) let the installer download the files it needs, you will have to do it yourself manually. Just put them in the directory with the installer before you run it, and the installer will install them.
These files can be found on our download page (http://sc2.sourceforge.net/downloads.php). uqm-0.4.0-content.uqm is essential, uqm-0.4.0-voice.uqm and uqm-0.4.0-3domusic.uqm are optional (though highly recommended).
