Title: Dreamcast port?
Post by: Black Monk on December 13, 2002, 12:38:11 am
http://www.dcemulation.com

I was just wondering if anyone's tried to get this working on Linux or NetBSD for the Dreamcast?  Or are the hardware requirements now too high?

I was just thinking that the platform, though no longer being made, has a decent installed base PLUS has several independent projects to port other games such as Doom and Quake.

I believe people are also implementing some APIs for graphics, sound, and input to make it easier for making new games or porting existing ones.

I'm guessing this is probably way beyond the scope of this project but I figured I'd raise the question.  ;)

http://www.consolevision.com or http://www.dcvision.com/ is a much better site to follow.

Anyway I think a Dreamcast port is possible.  SDL has been ported to the Dreamcast and is now included in the primary homebrew development library for it, KOS.  That said, don't expect any of the current core team to work on such a port.  It would take someone with the knowledge of the Dreamcast and KOS to port it.

About half of the files compile.  I'm looking into the troubles right now.  I thought I had some bugs fixed, but the build system got in the way.  I'll let you know when I get farther along.
