Let me know if anyone else would be interested in participating. We would create the basic models like the 3DO version, and we could load them as spacecraft in a BF2 mod. To see what a space mod looks like with the old BF1942 engine, check out Galactic Conquest. It would be cool I think! You would need BF2 to allow all the vehicles and special vehicle weapon types... the meat of the mod programming would be the weapon systems. The mod is currently nothing more than a few models put into VS's mesh format, but I'm hoping to make a Sol-system demo over several months.

With my own "Elite Strike" mod underway I don't know that I could be of direct help, but you'll certainly have my support. Anyway, you obviously know what you're doing. :) I may be able to help out more directly if I ever finish Elite Strike, but that remains to be seen. The heading says "from the intro of the 3DO version", but there are quite a few things there I don't recognise. I wonder if these guys have high-resolution extended versions of the intro and ending movies lying around. I also wonder if they have the copyright for them.

I'd be willing to do some 3d modeling/texturing for either of these projects. I'm pretty skilled in Max 7. In fact, I've been working on a game-friendly version of the vindicator. Consider the Quake3 arena GPL code or Ogre3d while you're at it, but having a more modern and scriptable codebase is very valuble right there. Back in the day, we considered doing the same thing with the Unreal engine, but decided to stick with our 2D guns. For sure, this is a great idea.
