Title: UQM Freeze in Windows XP
Post by: GEW on December 11, 2005, 04:00:41 pm
Ur-Quan Masters seems to freeze solid after about 5-10 minutes of gameplay invariably. I've played in a window and fullscreen, tried all three sound options (including 'none'), and it's still locking solid after a few moments of working normally. Conversation, combat, scanning, all work until it suddenly halts and refuses to respond until I reboot. This seems odd. Have also updated my video drivers (Geforce) to the latest release.

Any ideas?

What version of UQM? What Operating System? The rest of your system keeps working OK after this?

Ah, sorry.

The release version on the site, which is 0.4.0. I also downloaded and tested with 0.4.2 and that didn't seem to fix anything. I'm running this, as stated in the subject line, under Windows XP. And the rest of my system freezes as well, once UQM hangs I can't do anything until I reboot.

...So... no suggestions at all from anyone?

Hmm... I thought I replied to this thread.

Anyhow, no userland program should be able to crash your computer. So perhaps you've got a buggy driver (video would be the main candidate, but try updating others, like audio).
Or you could have a virus messing with the kernel. It never hurts to run a virus check.

An other option is that you've got a hardware problem. Perhaps some component (CPU, memory, graphics card) fails when it gets too hot. Have other similar programs caused you problems?
