Title: Greetings and a vision
Post by: ^Nytro^ on December 29, 2005, 01:44:02 pm
Hey everybody, recently I went back checking this forum after a very long time, and that active period was quite short too, so I may call myself newbie here- although SC is distant from being new to me- it kept me playing it for many many years....
ANYWAY, I just wanted to share you with this magnificent "WHAT IF" theory: firstly, I'm aware it was already massively discussed, but IF UQM could have gone online, then the possibilities of net competitions and contests of many kinds are impressive.
people could battle each other and the official competitions could determine one's world ranking according to his battles and achivements..
Now I sure would want to see a video capture of the Finals in this world championship!....
what do you think?

Because it's such a popular idea and because I like
to punish myself by writing code, I've done just that.
Please go to
http://ifonlywisheswerehorses.net/uqm/networked/

Seriously though, I have considered creating the
server side of a UQM multi-player. I'm not sure if I
prefer the idea of multiple two-player battles
or one large battle arena (ex Continuum).

Right now I have a ftp serve to finish, but then
I'll look into a uqm battle server. Anyone out
there masocistic enough to make a client?

How similar to UQM can TW be made? At least that's already networked.

the possibilities are indeed endless, just like they've done with World of Warcraft.
Star Control 2 has just the same potential..

I agree, but in the meantime the thought of a very-expert level hypermelee battle crossed my mind, I think it could be interesting to watch a battle like that.
I just wonder, has anyone ever been, let's call it, 'self-confident' enough to publish a capture of some great challenge that may interest other people?

come to think of it, you can easily capture games with Windows Media Encoder in the background.

hey, we can have "replays" !

heh.

1. TW  (or is it TW- light?) has replay support.
2. Megagun made a sc2-style graphics pack for TW, I've played a few network battles against him with it. It's fairly close to sc2 when you configure it right.
