I usually kill them all off with the Dill-rats. I think the universe is just better this way. From what I understand, you can also grab the helix while they are off to fight the Kohr-Ah ... a suggestion you give to them to impress the Ur-Quan. While they are away, I've read that there are no longer infinite ships guarding the helix. I think someone said 10. I never do it this way. But you have to admit, it's an expensive and satisfying way to gather up some easy RU. Especially if you have guidance modules installed, which isn't by any means necessary. You'll be done in minutes.
