Countdown to pillow fight... 10... 9... 8... 7... 6... (continues silently)

(Hmm. Marauders are so old-hat. How about a Stinger? No, the special would get too messy. Skiff, then. Mwahahaha!)

What now? doesn't Censored have seniority over like, almost everyone? He is older than Moses.

Anyways, congrats on your new status, both of you.

*Politely refuses the offer of alcohol, which was obviously laced with pillowcide.*

Then

*Backs away from Lukipela and activates a remote pillow mine that was under Lukipela's feet.*

Pillowcide? isn't that the mass murder of pillows? Why woudl I be serving that?

*Gets blown away in a cloud of feathers, happily sipping Champagne as he heads towards orbit.

I guess I'm just not a big poster. I've been around longer than most yawl and only have 350 or so posts.

It's like my mamma used to say, "Yawl talk too much!"

Why, thank you!

.. I think.

Yes, I've registered just a couple of weeks after Death 999, but last year I wasn't really around, trying to salvage a few extra points to my studies average. I failed to achieve that, though.

I don't post that much, so I like to think that quality beats quantity ;)

damn, when I registered here for the first time It was really at an early stage, just too bad I probably lost the nick&password, then again when I searched for the possible nick on the member list I didn't find anything, oh well.

and now I'm feeling bad and ashamed to even put my name in this noble thread.
well, at least I know what to strive for...

I may just be making this up, but wasn't the member list 'cleansed' at some point; ie. registered users with 0 posts deleted? Or am I thinking about some other forum?

How about doing like Censored suggests, strive for quality rather than quantity? ;)

"How about doing like Censored suggests, strive for quality rather than quantity?"

Making a few good arguements will not allow you to attain enlightenment. Only producing a horde of bad ones will. Trust me, I know (points to his five star "Enlightened" rank.) ;)

Good one.
Actually, this raises an interesting question, who's the one that thought up the titles for this forum?
Has anyone ever thought of changing them?
Not that I have anything against them, I just think that with a bit of collective effort we might have came up with something funnier/more suitable.

You know, the whole quality vs quantity thing brings up an interesting question in ranking. I mean, if you were to take words posted my 350+ posts probably beats out many 5 star posters. So if we were to rank instead of by post but by words (or words per post) perhaps we'd have a different system.

But does that mean verbosity = quality. Pretty much safe to say no, not really, no.

So some young punk achieves some artifical status by "me too"ing every post, does that give them bragging rights? Why the he** not. This is the internet. Quality does not preceed celebrity. Look at Paris Hilton. Think she's in the spotlight because she's talented? Heck no. She's where she is because she'll show up for the opening of a letter. Galas, premeers, homosexual parades, look around and there's that pink purse, ugly dog, and lazy eye. Quantity, that's where celebraty is at.

Well, that and having a nudie video that everyone and their mother saw.

Some sites like slashdot implement a user-rating system instead. Users give points to others for post quality... humor, informativeness, etc. Or, they take points away for spam, etc.

Or what about just totally removing Post count/Ranking system alltogether from being shown at threads, so if people *really* want to know how many posts someone made, they've got to access someone's profile? This way, post counts don't really matter anymore... Or can't that be done with SMF unless you alter the source?

Woah there Comrade!
Can you show me a single solitary person on these boards that actually judges someone by the number of his posts, rather then what's in them?
Sure, there were some people that thought they were cool because they had a high post count, it didn't change the fact that no one agreed with them.

I always thought those funny little titles were here to make the forum a bit more fun, rather then indicate someone's actual social status.

The words of a man with only 180 posts to his name. :)

I don't think there's any point in altering the ranking system, but changing the actual rank names might be fun, I agree.

Actually, we did ;) Look here (http://uqm.stack.nl/forum/index.php?topic=195.0) and here (http://uqm.stack.nl/forum/index.php?topic=575.0) I tihkn there is one more topic where people actually suggest names, but I can't be bothered to look it up. It should be quite close to the onw with titles time-wise, happy hunting if you are interested.

We actually partially implemented a system such as this on a voluntary basis over at SCDB. Seemed to work quite well. However, it was impossible to integrate into the SCDB code, so it's on the back burner for now.

Now that was interesting.
But not as much as seeing you use words like 'cuz' or 'ppl'. My my, how people change.
(*Ulp* I just hope no one will look for *my* older posts).
I think the problem with those titles is that they lack a more specific theme. Right now it's Zoq-Fot tied with Orz and Pkunk. It's hard to see a pattern here.

According to the scriptures of the Great Cat, any who falls in the fury of a pillow fight shall be rewarded in the halls of Cathalla with seventy two cat virgins. Especially if you are fighting Death_999 with his unholilly high post count.
