Title: game won't start Post by: TJ on December 24, 2002, 05:50:58 am I downloaded and installed the game. Now I double click on uqm.exe but the game never loads! What happens is there is one window that shows file names, and the other window remains blank. Eventually the filenames get to newgame.ani, but still the other window is blank. Then the filenames start repeating newgame.ani and title.ani. I took a long time to download this and what is going on? Why won't the game load?
Title: Re: game won't start Post by: Keith on February 02, 2003, 04:47:15 pm I have the same identical problem. Any answer yet?
Title: Re: game won't start Post by: PhracturedBlue on February 02, 2003, 07:22:37 pm Please give more info aoutyour system:
Processor, OS, RAM, Video Card, SoundCard. have you tried running it in OpenGL mode? After that, the only thingi can tell you is to wait for 0.2 (should be out soon) or download a recent snapshot (striker's for instance). It is only a couple Megs, and is reasoably likely to fix your problem. In any case, we don't have any way to debug problems form the 0.1 version of the game anymore. The code has changed too mch in the last few months. While I don't rememer any bugs specifically related to this, it doesn't mean that it isn't fixed yet. The most likely technical answers is that SDL isn't getting initialized correctly. perhaps you have two conflicting versions on your system, or the one for UQM didn't get properly installed. Title: Re: game won't start Post by: Nic. on February 03, 2003, 07:17:45 am I recall reading other posts about this same problem on the forum, and if I recall correctly, it is related to the colour depth of your display.
Try changing the number of colours and see if the problem goes away. Title: Re: game won't start Post by: Magus on March 06, 2003, 06:49:18 pm Quote Try changing the number of colours and see if the problem goes away. I have the same issue described by the initiator of this thread. The lowest color depth my laptop adapter will allow me to set, with the correct video driver is 16-bit color. The tiny window expands to a window with "New Game", "Super Melee" and "Load Game" when I set the display to 16-bit color but it still doesn't let me go past that screen. If I click on "New Game" it will flash to the screen that says "Ur-Quan Masters" but then after a second or two it reverts to the New/Load/Super Melee screen. :( Title: Re: game won't start Post by: Novus on March 06, 2003, 07:43:29 pm Quote If I click on "New Game" it will flash to the screen that says "Ur-Quan Masters" but then after a second or two it reverts to the New/Load/Super Melee screen. Errr... Clicking doesn't do anything. This is a straight conversion from the 3DO game console version of SC2, so the only controls are a gamepad or two (usually simulated by a bunch of keys on the keyboard). Try using the cursor keys, Enter, Space, Shift, right Ctrl, F1 and F10 (these should be the default keys, and map to the direction keys, A, B, C, D, Pause and Exit on the 3DO controller respectively, if memory serves me).:( If you do nothing in the main menu, it will switch back to the title screen after a short while. Title: Re: game won't start Post by: Lassi H on March 06, 2003, 08:52:01 pm Almost the same problem, except I get to the starting screen, where are the new game, load game, and super melee, icons.
My problem is that nothing happens when i click any of those. What should I do? And thanks anyway for the work you have done! Title: Re: game won't start Post by: Lassi on March 06, 2003, 08:55:47 pm Oh and almost forgot, my system is: Windows 2000 Amd 1900+ Geforce4 and 128 RAM, if that helps.
Title: Re: game won't start Post by: Lassi on March 06, 2003, 08:58:44 pm Shite, I didn't really click on them, allthought I said so. I used The keyboard like supposed to.
