Title: Star Control Photoshops
Post by: Anthony on September 04, 2006, 09:59:06 pm
Hi,

I am a frequent visitor of somethingawful.com, mainly for its "Photoshop Phridays".  They doctor images based on a topic.

I remember when we had threads about redrawn ships, splash screens, etc.  I think it's about time we have a Photoshop thread about Star Control.

So, if you want to be inspired to doctor or create some images based on Star Control, this is the place.  I have made some example images.  Sorry if there's any discrepencies in the images, I'm not very experienced in doctoring.  Don't hold back.  We'll do whatever it takes to inspire creativity, and making others aware of how we'll never forget the name STAR CONTROL

They're all amusing, but the Star Trek, Pussycat Dolls, and keyboard ones had me in stitches.  Good job man.

Thanks.  And in a few days, I hope that other people can submit their work, and this thread will become larger, with images that will continue to impress...

If anyone is planning to submit images to the thread, feel free to post.  I really believe that this inspires creativity and love for Star Control, and provides a moment of entertainment to us Star Control fans...

LOL.  That's a good pic of the sign.  It's cool that someone else doctored an imaged in the name of Star Control before... :D.

Here's an edit I made of the bugzilla standard jpeg (and the original)

Nice one. It would work great on the bugzilla page too (apart from the animation).

Hey,

I became inspired by the Androsynth.  I then thought of the Tony Hawk game TFB was working on, and this happened:
(http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i108/batman4050/doctored/th_androhawk.jpg) (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i108/batman4050/doctored/androhawk.jpg)

If you haven't seen a picture of the Androsynth before.  Here's the link:  http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/29/Androsynth.jpg

EDIT: I corrected a little typo...

Yeah, I used it on timewarp's bugzilla server before it died in a move.  Luckily, I have a backup.  Unluckily, I never put it... back up.

Cool.  I'm glad that people are submitting things.  It really means a lot.  So far, this thread has been viewed 300 times, so that must mean that people like the pictures...

Keep up the good work...  Thanks Culture20, Ivan Ivanov and BlackSpathi for submitting pictures so far...

If anyone out there wants to submit Star Control themed pictures, go right ahead.  Don't let anything hold you back.  A picture is worth a thousand words; a Star Control picture is worth a lot more...

Loved the Bugzill-ah (Kohr-Ahnt?). And although I'm not one for tony hawk, if they made an androsynth-themed one I'd play it!

Perhaps they'd make some insane skateboard that can turn into a flaming comet and damage things, and then mysteriously disappear, and the Orz skaters would take their place, and start *dancing*...

That's funny, though it might be significantly better if you had "had enough of those mother f-ing Limpets, on that mother f-ing cruiser." ;)

You wouldn't even need to photoshop that, just get a pic of the cruiser in super melee after getting stuck with some limpets.

LOL.  That's a nice idea too.  I'd have to enlarge the cruiser significantly, so it may be blurry.  I just saw a trailer for Snakes on A Plane, and then I saw the poster, do I changed the plane to a Cruiser.

At the moment, I'm just finding another inspiration for another image to work on; it's just I have so many responsibilities, it could take me a while to post another pic.  If anyone out there wants submit a picture, go right ahead; I'm trying to get as much images in here as possible.  :)

Special thanks to Kris Hauser for creating the Transformer pictures.  :D

EDIT: I know that they're also known as X-Forms, but I chose to keep the word Transformers in this case.  It also saved me some editing time :)

This seemed like a better idea when I thought of it. But in the end, the time I spent on it vs the final project... ah well, it's as done as I'm going to bother. I should do something with the background, I should put the head piece on her. Meh. Enjoy:

Yeah, it may be a bit to cerebrial for this thread. Maybe if I captioned it "IMA Sexxxy b8tch"

Gradius would be so much easier if you were playing with that ship.

With inertia and forced scrolling? That could get painful, if smacking off the walls is like hitting the planet.
Also, bosses with hitboxes that are far in from where you'd collide with them, that'd be killer too.

Post by: Bluhman on June 13, 2007, 05:06:55 pm
Well, you could take multiple hits. And the zapsats would almost always catch the bullets.

Post by: Death 999 on June 15, 2007, 07:31:41 pm
Yeah, the game's old challenges would be mostly gone, no doubt. But you would have a hard time avoiding crashing into the walls. Gradius fighters lack inertia, and the level designers relied on this.
