Title: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: stshores24 on October 01, 2006, 11:09:12 pm OK, so I heard their distress call and forgot about it. It's now August and the Zoq-Fot-Pik homeworld has been reduced to its base elements. Oops.
Do I care? Do they serve a vital role in the story later, or can I just shrug my shoulders, say 'oh well', and go on? Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: meep-eep on October 02, 2006, 12:20:51 am It has no effect on the rest of the game. You'll just miss a few clues that they could give you, but nothing you can't do without.
Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: stshores24 on October 02, 2006, 02:56:51 am Thanks. I think I had already wrote the clues that I had heard down: there was the fact about the Vux replacing the Androsynth and the direction from which the Slylandro probes originated. Anything else I'm missing? I seem to remember that their ships sucked, so I don't think it's worth returning to previous saves for that.
I just wish I'd known that I was going to discover a worthless planet before I tried to reach them in time. Wasted a bunch of fuel on these dweebs. Ah well. Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: OOPMan on October 02, 2006, 06:56:46 pm Hey! They're a three-for-one deal and have some crackingly funny dialog...
Too bad you let them die :-) Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: stshores24 on October 02, 2006, 07:44:17 pm Nah, I'm well-familiar with the ZFP. They ARE really funny. I actually DID save them in an earlier game save, but had re-traced my steps because I had forgotten something. I don't remember why it was that I retraced my steps, but regardless, they're gone now and there's no use crying over spilt milk...or in this case, destroyed races.
Besides that, I had solved SC2 about a decade ago . That was using a walkthrough, however, and since my memory is foggy anyway I decided I would do it right, which means that I'm taking it slow and discovering the game anew. I am amazed at how fresh a ten-year-old game can be. Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: The_Fot on October 02, 2006, 09:31:12 pm The only information that you can only get from the ZFP is the location of the Syreen ships. But Talana gives you a hint which narrows down the number of places you'd have to look, so you don't really need it.
Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: stshores24 on October 02, 2006, 09:58:26 pm Ah, OK. Haven't gotten that far yet. Thanks for the tip.

Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: Zarnium on October 03, 2006, 12:43:33 am It was the Orz, actually.
Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: stshores24 on October 03, 2006, 02:05:00 am It was the Orz, actually. Yeah, those cats. Or whatever. Thanks.Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: stshores24 on October 03, 2006, 04:17:53 pm Hey! They're a three-for-one deal and have some crackingly funny dialog... Hey, when I said 'dweebs' I was just being funny. The ZFP are probably the funniest race in SC2. Going to miss them, but hey, fuel's expensive and I have Ur-Quan to destroy. ;DToo bad you let them die :-) Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: stshores24 on October 05, 2006, 04:05:21 pm Well, my conscience was starting to bug me last night--yes, I'm weird, and I know it's just a game--but all the same, I'd rather have the ZFP in my system than not. So I'll restore one of my saves and see if I can get to them in time.
::) Yeah, I'm weird. Sorry. Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: Mugz the Sane on October 06, 2006, 07:43:43 am Good. They may have a largely useless ship for a beginner, they may be mildly irritating, and they may not be able to give you much info, but they are funny, they are cute and they have come up with a wonderful and entertaining sport.
Well worth the effort/fuel to save. Also, practice enough and their little ship won't sting anymore, it'll MAIM. Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: stshores24 on October 06, 2006, 02:36:41 pm Also, practice enough and their little ship won't sting anymore, it'll MAIM. Hmm....maybe. But it is kind of nice to see my little collection of ships all around me--one Earthling Cruiser, five Spathi ships (I stocked up before they slave-shielded themselves), and now the four ZFP ships. It's kind of the same warm fuzzy feeling a collector gets when a box arrives from eBay with the latest supplement to his addiction, minus the actual money thing involved. The only thing that really frustrated me was that after I saved their planet, they had no new informaion for me. Gosh, I would've at least made up SOMETHING! ("Yeah, last week we saw this....uh....green guy with...uh...a message for you...um...he said he would see you later.") Just something more. Ah well. Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: Draxas on October 06, 2006, 10:28:54 pm If the ZFP have new info for you, that is a Bad ThingTM. It indicates that you are going to have a very genocidal problem in the near future. So, no news is good news.
Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: RTyp06 on October 07, 2006, 03:04:34 am Umm.. Can you "save" the ZFP? What do you have to do, kill some KorAh?
Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: Lukipela on October 07, 2006, 02:25:42 pm SPOILERish since we've been discussing it all throught the thread.
When theCommander tells you that they've recieved a ZFP distres signal, travel to their homeworld. You'll find a lone Kohr-ah ship there. Blast it, and all is well again. Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: Rogue Kohr-Ah on October 08, 2006, 10:53:08 pm When the Zot-Fot-Pik ask for assistance, they need it. They're not in the habit of using such extreme words, as the Pik emmisary points out.

Post by: Rogue Kohr-Ah on October 08, 2006, 11:00:36 pm Spathi Eluders are actually quite good ships, they're just piloted by cowards :)

You'll find a lone Kohr-ah ship there. Blast it, and all is well again. So I take it this is an event where time matters and I can't go mining for a year or so and expect them to survive? For some reason I thought the ZFP distress was simply to tip off their location before you even met the ZFP. Perhaps I'm confusing this with somthing else.. Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: Lukipela on October 09, 2006, 07:15:15 am There are two signals from the ZFP. First the commander tells you about transmissions from the Rigel star system, where you meet them for the first time. They then give you the location of their homeworld. A while after you've been to their homeworld and become allies, they send off an distress signal. Time does matter here, I think you have around three months to go save them or they'll be wiped out.
Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: Rogue Kohr-Ah on October 09, 2006, 05:53:01 pm Do remember to go packing - there may only be one Kohr-Ah around their homeworld, but there will still be a tone of them and their Ur-Quan cousins around Zot-Fot-Pik space.
Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: Icemage_999 on October 15, 2006, 06:09:39 am Spathi Eluders are actually quite good ships, they're just piloted by cowards :) Agreed, though I find that killing most ships with the Eluder to be too time-consuming to be worthwhile once you have stronger ships available to you.You can take down nearly anything with an Eluder, but sometimes its a very long battle. Maybe I'm just too impatient. :) Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Fusion Thrusters and Turning Jets FTW. Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: Rogue Kohr-Ah on October 15, 2006, 10:13:40 pm I am not a fan of running. It wastes fuel and if it is a fight you can win, then it also wastes the RU you could be making off salvage. Waste, waste, waste.
Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: Lukipela on October 15, 2006, 10:34:50 pm Except that a slow moving ship close to the ZFP homeworld will actually get stuck. Enough HS contacts will be generated all the time to keep you falling into a new one before you have a chance to move at all. So while you may win every fight, you'll be stuck in the same spot figting until the Sa-Matra rolls around. And seeing as time only passes for the split second you are in HS before being dragged down again, that will be a very long time.
But go ahead, fight on ye mighty and brave. Waste not, and doom the universe. Title: Re: No more Zoq-Fot-Pik...do I care? Post by: Mugz the Sane on October 16, 2006, 07:56:15 am the universe is already doomed. humanity is at large in it.

Forgive my rudeness for reviving an old topic, but a question has occurred to me. What did you do to the 4 pkunk ship's? Don't know if you know it, but they are the most effective ships against the big toy of the ur-quan. I hope for you that you have at least saved one of them, if not, you will have a hard time against it, and you may have to begin all over ;D. Of course you can make the big ur-quan toy vulnerable with other ships, but it will take a lot more effort. |
