I haven't read everything, but the first one sounds like it might be a joke lampooning anti-semitic christians. You can't hate everything middle-eastern and then turn around and say you are a Christian ('cause I'm fairly certain the whole bible takes place there.) I don't think Lore can be considered much of a true believer within any religion anyway, based on his sig, which seems sort of sacrilegeous. But whatever the point of this or lack thereof, I have to agree with meep, since if you ban someone for insulting one religion, you have to ban not only people who have insulted any religion (no matter how small or ridiculous it might seem to you, be it 'Pagans,' Cultists, Cat followers, Self Worshippers, Trekies, PS3 Owners, etc.) but also anyone who insults any other rigid belief system (Progressives, Utopians/Technocrats, Free Market Capitalists, Atheists, Retro Gamers, Scientists, Cat Breeders, etc.)

Nah, the cat breeder thing was a joke. In america there are certain obsessive groups that feel an almost religious reverence for something that most other people would only have a modest interest in. I hadn't seen the cat pic thread either at the time, sort of a funny coincidence. I am more of a cat person though, since it is sometimes hard for me to fathom why there are so many more dog owners than pig owners- the only difference is the later can be fed table scraps, which might make it cheaper long term.

I was just making a general comparison to the absurdity of Zanths posts vs. .these posts.  For all his absurdity Zanth was more about blowing his own horn, telling us things about his great religion, and what was supposed to be done, communing with nature and all that. This guy is for some reason just posting straight out racism, be it because he is trolling, because it's his opinion, or because he finds it funny in some unfathomable way. Just out of curiosity, is anyone even reading these links? I slugged halfway through the first one, and then gave up. I assume the rest is the same sort of stuff, but clicking one open just reveals a wall of ugly text in horrible colours which I can't be bothered to look more clearly at.

When I first read the stuff on the hottest-host site, I was assaulted with the most idiotic, racist, hateful crap I had ever encountered. After Zanthius was mentioned here, I found myself longing to read some of his insanities for a few good laughs. Unfortunately the search function on this board is shot. Also his website (http://dxun.org) seems to be missing much of its content from that time (though the Wayback Machine (http://web.archive.org/*/dxun.org/*) still has copies). First: seriously man, if you WANT to be taken seriously in ANY religious debate, don't post anything from the landover baptists. I haven't yet decided whether they're serious or only kidding. Fourth: I can take a joke about my own religion incredibly well for a Catholic. 90% of religious people either can't or won't.

Finally: the teachings of the prophets and Jesus paint us one picture of what God is like. Our modern religious insitutions paint a totally different one, and what's worse is every institution has its own picture - often at odds with the one Jesus, the prophets and the Saints gave us.
For example: Roman Catholicism (the one I am a member of and thus feel qualified to comment on) is guilty of the Crusades, the Inquisition, and I'm sure everyone else can think up another few examples. How does this tie in with the message the Church preaches? "Jesus loves you, unless you're Jewish/Muslim/Buddhist/Taoist/Tolkienist/whatever." Take that theory and shove it. It's utter rubbish.

This may come to a surprise to you (assuming you're American), but the entire world doesn't focus on what happens in the US. I realise that you think US news are terribly important and assume that the rest of the world is talking abouut the exact same things as you are. This isn't really the case hwoever. A lot of other religious leaders slip up and get ostracized publicy. That the american media doesn't bring it up doesn't mean the rest of the world doesn't know anything about it. for example, when I hear about child molesting Catholics, I immediately think of Ireland, which has had it's fair share of these incidents. I do vaguely recall some news about it happening in the US as well, but it's not as if European newspapers plaster your news all over the headlines.

What do you expect him to do, rally the Catholic army, replace the UN and overthrow the bloodthirsty oil drinking Yanks? He's the figurehead of a large religion, but it's not as if he has much economic or political clout to wave around. At best he can try to be a force for reconciliation between different faiths and try and mitigate some of the more conservative rules in your faith.

But more importantly, this was a conspiracy, that the vatican itself knew about and tried to cover up. Priests were moved around once they made too much trouble, but they were not even put out of action, they could harm more kids from a new church. I have a suspicion that there is so much corruption within the church, that even those who are not direct offenders in this way, have secrets they need to keep hidden, so they don't want the police to have these bastards, as they could start leaking church secrets, or the secrets of those priests or bishops who turned them into the local authorities. And this has been going on for decades.

I'm not really attacking how you may believe in or prefer what the catholic church preaches over others, I don't know enough about all those specifics to even know where to begin (like what separated the orthodox church from the catholic, I don't remember anymore.) But this deep rooted treachery inside the catholic church structure should NOT be forgotten, until either it is abandoned by its followers (who may stick true to their beliefs, but do so outside of the church) or every last church document is made public or reviewed by an uncorrupted wing of local law enforcement and everyone who had any involvement is behind bars.

As far as I'm concerned, giving money to the Catholic Church right now is what you would call a 'Sin.' Doing so is paying for these ass holes to keep harming the very children who are told to follow their 'moral' guidance.

So while there's a lot of people who do bad things on there own, they don't have religion, money, and a politically powerful multi-national organization to help bail them out when they start to get noticed.

I organised a few meetups like this (on the scale of my country tough, not the whole damn world), and the biggest problems with organising such events are:

1) Getting enough people willing to move their asses.
2) Finding a date that will suit everyone, or at least the majority.

We haven't even reached point 1), cause thise whole thing is still an abstract idea (tough many such meet-ups which I was a part of started like this)

If we're organising a meet-up, we have to make certain TfB gets an invite.

We should also consider setting it up someplace warm... Like, say Australia. Equally inconvenient for everyone (except perhaps Australians... Do we even have any of those here?)!

On a more serious note, a StarconCon would be truly awesome, if it were at all possible to make it work.
