Title: Off Topic - Star Control 1 Post by: Kelju_Ivan on December 29, 2002, 02:25:47 am I just tried playing Star Control 1 on a Pentium 133 with a Sound Blaster AWE 32. The thing is that I get no sound at all. I played the same game with a 386 as well (no soundcard), but in this case the game uses PC speaker for sound.
The soundcard works for other DOS games so I wonder why it doesn't say anything. The game should at least use the PC speaker, shouldn't it? Title: Re: Off Topic - Star Control 1 Post by: Scott on December 29, 2002, 03:33:11 am I have the same problem too.
I think that TFB is just gonna have to release the SC1 source code too! :D And I know they lost the code.. what about for the Genesis version though? :D Title: Re: Off Topic - Star Control 1 Post by: Garthor on December 29, 2002, 04:58:19 am Funny, I'm playing SC1 on a DOS emulator on my 1700 computer and I'm getting no problems, and the sound is coming from *gasp* my external speakers.
Title: Re: Off Topic - Star Control 1 Post by: Black Monk on December 29, 2002, 08:18:29 pm The implication is that *gasp* he is running in native DOS of some version (Win9x DOS, DOS 6.22, DR-DOS, whatever), not under NT with DosBox.
Star Control 1, if memory serves me right, did not support the Sound Blaster. It supported Adlib. And the original ISA Sound Blasters emulated (or were compatible with) the Adlib. If you can find some AWE32 drivers or a TSR that makes it compatible with the Adlib, I think that'll work for you. Unsure, the AWE32 is when Creative moved from the ol' OPL chipset to... oh what is it, some Ensoniq stuff or something. I forget the exact chip name, E8000? Anyway, if you have an old SB16 that you can throw in one of your machines, that should work. |
