Title: SC3? Post by: Captain Maugin on December 29, 2006, 08:51:35 pm Well… I'm new.
Anyways… I just finished playing UQM. Someone was showing me SC1, and then I asked, "So… did Toys For Bob ever live up to UQM's credits and make a third one?" And what did I hear! (This was before I came to the site and saw the Petition.) Some OTHER company had made someTHING that was horrible! But I don't want to denounce SC3 without actually playing it or doing some research. So what's it like? Title: Re: SC3? Post by: Lukipela on December 29, 2006, 09:26:26 pm There are numerous threads on this subject you could peruse. For instance, a quick usage of the search feature would indicate that these topics might be helpful:

Unless you were just trolling from responses of course, in which case carry on. Title: Re: SC3? Title: Re: SC3? Post by: Captain Maugin on December 30, 2006, 11:39:18 pm Thanks.
Puppets? I was expecting that… I can't help thinking of the "Dregs and Vestiges" thing that Jim Henson did on the early SNL episodes. Title: Re: SC3? Post by: Culture20 on December 31, 2006, 02:51:08 am One thing I keep forgetting about was that the AI in "Hyper" Melee was bad. It would _only_ run away. In fact, the developers knew this, and a note was put in the manual that you needed to hit a function key to make the enemy become agressive for a short period.
Title: Re: SC3? Post by: Grakelin on January 01, 2007, 12:48:26 pm I tried to get into it, but I just couldn't. The navigation system confused me. I often ran out of fuel before the game even started. Probably one of the worst games I have ever played, unless there are worse ones I'm blocking out with my mind. On my personal rating, I give it the following score.
Gameplay: 0 - Zomg, wtf is going on? Storyline: 0 - Zomg, wtf is going on? (again) Graphics: 0 .5 - Zomg, wtf is going on? (a third time) And why are Spathi beige? What does the colony colours mean? Sound: 0 - Zomg, I know what's going on. Suckitude. Originality: 0.5 - It's got something good going for it. But in the end, it doesn't. Total Points: 1/5. Compared to SC2 which gets a 5/5 on my same scale, which is difficult to pull off, since I like to toss around 0.5s. SC3, the very symbol of which fills me with rage upon seeing the C connected to the 3 in such an awful combination. Yarrgh! I cannot stand it anymore, I must immediately escape the madness found within the hallowed halls of my mind as it continues to envision SC3. God, there's that C and 3 combo again, I can't take it anymore! In short, SC3 really, really, really sucks. And I like everything. Title: Re: SC3? Post by: darkheart on January 16, 2007, 07:43:28 am the voice acting
the voice acting is horrid !!! Title: Re: SC3? Post by: Novus on January 16, 2007, 10:06:22 am the voice acting Actually, I preferred the Orz voice in SC3 to the 3DO SC2 version. However, the new aliens (with the possible exception of the Daktaklakpak) were annoying and/or boring and most of the good stuff in SC3 (especially in the dialogue) was lifted from SC2.the voice acting is horrid !!! Oh, well... *beats another seventeen colours of ___ outta SCnot3 for disappointing so badly, then coordinates an orbital ion strike on Legend HQ.* Can't kill something that's already dead. Legend was acquired by GT interactive in '98, and GTI was bought outright by Atari/Infogrames a year later. In 2004, Atari shut down Legend Entertainment for good. Title: Re: SC3? Post by: Novus on February 12, 2007, 04:24:44 pm Thanks for the good news Aya! :D That's a bit harsh; I sort of enjoyed some of Legend's earlier games (especially Gateway). However, Star Control II relied heavily on things Legend were weak at, such as snappy dialogue, creative action sequences and the like, while Legend didn't really have a chance to use their skills in Star Control 3 (alien worlds, surreal but logical puzzles). Star Control 3 would have been better if they'd done it as a text adventure ;).The differences in style make this even worse. SC2's music made itself noticed, while SC3 has Legend's usual atmospheric background stuff that isn't annoying when you hear it for the 30th time but you don't really remember it afterwards. The puppets and idiotic isometric combat view (which is, thankfully, easily turned off) must be something dreamed up by Accolade management, because I don't Legend ever did anything like that before. On the other hand, I think the fan outrage would have been even worse if SC3 would have been like this: Quote from: Legend-style You are in the control room of your Precursor vessel. You see a control panel in front of you with an attached chair. Exits lead aft and down. DOWN You sit down at the control panel. The jury-rigged Earthling-size chair creaks slightly, but holds your weight. EXAMINE CONTROL PANEL The control panel contains a comms viewscreen, a navigation screen, a combat screen and a logistics screen. EXAMINE COMMS VIEWSCREEN Your comms viewscreen shows a hysterically pleading Spathi flailing its claws wildly. It also contains a TRANSMIT and a DISCONNECT button, labelled in Precursor. LISTEN The Spathi whines: "Oh God...Please don't let me die today! Tomorrow would be so much better!". Your drinking glass resonates ominously. TALK TO SPATHI What do you want to say to the Spathi? ASK SPATHI TO CALM DOWN He can't hear you, you're not transmitting! TRANSMIT That sentence doesn't make any sense. PRESS TRANSMIT BUTTON You press the TRANSMIT button. It changes colour from red to yellow. ASK SPATHI TO CALM DOWN The Spathi says: "I don't know what you're talking about, hunam.". The Spathi continues to gesture wildly and scream. TELL SPATHI TO CHILL OUT Could you please rephrase that? RELAX, SPATHI I'm sorry, I didn't understand that. RELAX There is no time to relax, you have a galaxy to save! QUIT Are you really sure you want to quit? Y Could you please rephrase that? <CTRL-ALT-DELETE> Title: Re: SC3? Post by: Spektrowski on February 12, 2007, 07:07:34 pm That was just superb! ;D
