Title: Problem with Installation
Post by: stryfe0208 on March 09, 2007, 06:22:17 pm
I'm having trouble getting the installer to work.  I'm running Windows 2000.  I've tried to make the installer work by doing two things:

1. Double-clicking on it in the ordinary way
2. Running dosBox, then attempting to run the program from there

When I do 1, I get the following error report from Windows:
16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem
C:\starcon\uqm-06~1.exe
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:0dcf IP:01b5 OP:63 26 20 4f 70  Choose 'Close' to terminate the applicaiton.

If I choose "Ignore" instead, I get several similar messages.  If I ignore them all, eventually it just sits there and does nothing.

If I do 2, the computer simply sits around and does nothing, or perhaps it is doing something but not getting anywhere with it.

Any help on what I should do?  Does the program run on Win2K?

This sounds like a badly downloaded installer file.
This can happen for instance when you select "save as" on a link, and actually save the "select a mirror" download page as an .exe file.

The installer and game do normally work on Windows 2000.

Thanks.  The problem was pretty obvious once you pointed it out.  :-[  The files did look rather small, but I wasn't thinking about that.  "The game is pretty old" is what I was thinking and therefore expecting something small....but obviously 16.8k is ridiculous!   ::)  Anyway, I'm downloading it again the right way.  Thanks again.
