Bouyed by the resounding success of the Utwig Urn the time is right for the next league. I present to you the Kohr-Ah Cup! This will surely be a gruelling examination of any admiral's worth.  It will take more than 2 or 3 lucky wins to reach the final of this competition.

League structure/rules

• 'Round Robin' regular season - everyone plays everyone else once)
• Semi finals and final
• 2 points win, 1 point tie, 0 points loss
• Scores recorded - (points left after melee) e.g. 30-0 if you're left with a Kohr-Ah
• Not showing up for game = default loss by 150-0
• Standings and results will be updated after each round and posted on this thread and UQM-arena
• If at the end of regular season players are tied on competiton points, play-off placings will be decided by points For and Against.
• The leageu will run for no more than 6 weeks, not necesarily consecutive

Game rules

• Maximum 200 pts per fleet
• Maximum one of each ship type per fleet (no duplicates)
• Maximum 40 minutes per melee - Timed out games result in both players receiving a loss (an effort to nulify boring stalemates)
• You must have your team set up before melee - this prevents you adjusting your line-up to counter your opponents team!

Yikes, this has quietly slipped off the front page, so i'm slipping it back on for hype-building purposes

I find myself bumping a thread in Ur-Quan Masters forum.

No shame it that if it's for a mighty cause. final reminder, league commences in just over 34 hours' time! My mandibles drip with excitement

I would be so happy to join, but alas, I can not due to the unsuitable time. I'll have to pass.

The Kohr-Ah Cup got underway today, with 6 players starting. The league will resume next Saturday, same time: (4pm New York or 10pm Paris).

I'll happily accept new players into the league from next week so please come along - although you'll have  a game or two to catch up!

Well, time for another reminder. As above, the league will resume this coming Saturday (4pm NY time, 10pm Paris time). Even though we’re a couple of games into it you can still play if you’re not already – you will just have a bit of catching up to do over the next few weeks.

Aarg, am I too late to join in? I just downloaded UQM 2 days ago and just playing around with it when i found this post!

On a side note, I have not played UQM over the net before, where are the usual sites etc and what is the procedure thingy, haven't checked yet  :)

Always keen to have new folks along. You are pushing it to join the league but if you can be on the start line at 4pm New York time Saturday afternoon you can enter - you will just have a few games to catch up.  The following week the league will take a break while I hold another knockout tournament.

AAAHHHHHH!!!!!!  I can't believe that I missed this one!  My wife had a baby and that took me out of the action for a little while!  Damn kids!  :  )

Anyway, now I'm in the same boat as PurpleBridge.  I'd love to be able to catch up, especially with some time until the next play date, but not sure how.  Would I be able to catch up before the next date?  Is that "legal"?  Does anyone in the league currently even have time to play me before the next date?  If so, please let me know.  I'd very much appreciate it!

I don’t mind if you two get going on Saturday, but of course both of you guys plus Shiver are encouraged to make up games midweek if the opportunity arises. You would have to remember the score and report it to me on Saturday – or send me a forum message. I would imagine if you ‘frequent’ #uqm-arena you’ll run into someone in the league before then.

The best time would be the day before – same time (Friday pm for most of you). Usually the same guys are there then, including me.

I should be able to get into UQM-Arena on Thursday but I dunno if any of the other contestants will be around.

If folks are around Thursday or Friday, that's all good. If not, It will have to be Saturday. As long as everyone has at least three games under their belt by the end of Saturdays melees, I'm happy.

Looks like AngusThermopyle and Cedric6014 have all but cemented play-off spots. The usual suspects Tiberian and Elvish_Pillager have some work to do.

The Kohr-Ah Cup will take an official break next Saturday while the Burvixese Bowl KO tournament is held.

Tiberian will need ot win his remaining games to make the semi-finals, while Elerium and Shiver are also in with a chance. Early days for Galactus who has only had 3 melees.

Okay, this weekend the Kohr-Ah Cup will resume. Galactus is a few games behind so hopefully he can come to the party this coming Saturday. If all goes to plan the following weekend will be the last weekend.

Then it's semifinals

So its very tight going in to the last few games before playoffs. 4 combatants are vying for that last two play-off spots. It seems that the winner of the Tiberian-Shiver match will go through, and if Elerium beats Cedric6014, Cedric6014 could miss out on points differential. Elvish and Angus have secured their semis spots. Its all about pride and glory for Galactus and Tomsik. It has been a very tight league with only 2 wins breaching the 100 mark.

Anyway, We need ALL competitiors to show up next week - as we will definitely (by definitely I mean hopefully) be wrapping this baby up. Turn up early if you can, say 3.30 pm New York time. And feel free to start even if I'm not there.

Unfortunately, next Saturday is a no-go for me. I could play during the week at nights or something, but the weekend is pretty tied up for me.

Well, so I guess we delay the playoffs to another weekend. If you can get your melees vs Galactus and Shiver out of the way that would be good. Same goes for you other guys!

(Or better yet, record the melees; Justice had a .png-dumping patch, but, alas, he doesn't seem to be around anymore... I've PM-ed him some months ago and I hadn't heard from him since.)

This is, after all, in order to increase the tournament's fairness and fun! It's a noble goal!

Hmm, I would need to ask the participants to write these details down battle by battle. It would be a bit of a chore and we'd have to do it for a lot of games to make it worth while. I can but ask

You can use VidShot (http://www.dirfile.com/vidshot_capturer.htm (http://www.dirfile.com/vidshot_capturer.htm)) to capture videos. It's freeware.
This is the way to use it for capturing Melees:

A) First indicate where the video should be saved by using the "..." button. Hint: Use your nickname in the name, otherwise no one will know who recorded the video, specify your opponent and whether you play the bottom or the top side.
B) 1) If you run UQM in a window:
       - Check the "Window" radio button
       - Drag the "Select window" button to the UQM window
       - When starting the battle, press Start in VidShot to start recording. When the tournament has finished, press F9 to stop recording. NOTE: VidShot automatically minimizes while recording.
     2) If you run UQM fullscreen:
       - Check the "Desktop" radio button
       - Before starting UQM, press Start in VidShot to start recording. When the tournament has finished, press F9 to stop recording. NOTE: I don't think anyone netplays in fullscreen.
C) Wait for the video to build, then host it somewhere, for example on www.savefile.com.

Anyway, I dont know if anyone turned up Saturday - I know I didn't. sorry about that! Important stuff came up. I can tell you that I'll be there next Saturday for sure and I hope everyon else can make it so we can close this thing. Its getting really exciting, even if its getting exciting too slowly.

Hey! You can't just abandon a game, especially not without the consent of the players!

Tomsik and I played our tournament game today. I destroyed him by 169 points.

Okay, I’ll accept that result as there is no official binding schedule for this league and players appear to be of the understanding that games can be played on an ad-hoc basis.

Behind the original logic for abandoning the game was a desire to wrap up the tournament as soon as possible. Since Tomsik and Elvish_Pillager have played their game, the progression of the tournament is not compromised.

That means that Elvish_Pillager will shoot to top spot on points difference will play Elerum in one semi-final. Angus will play Tiberium in the other.

In future there will be a stricter schedule, and defaults or abandonments will be enforced.

Right now, you have 1 vs 3 and 2 vs 4.

Anyways, whoever I play, it'll have be before Thursday. Otherwise, it has to wait 'till next week.

Elerium and I played our semi-finals game. Despite massive bouts of lag, we finished, with me winning (by 64 points, in case you wanted that information.)

The final match was very intense, and it finally ended with me defeating Tiberian by one Ilwrath.

Well thank God that's over - congratulations Elvish. What was the final score?

Man, that's the kind of game you need to video. You didnt use Vidshot by any chance did you?

Nope. I could tell you what happened however :P

I will, just because I'm bored :P

The game began with him as Supox and me as Umgah. I tried various tactics - zooming backwards, lunging from the planet, going on really fast gravity whips - and managed to do 2 damage before dying. I picked Melnorme, and I did an awful job aiming at him, and he managed to shoot me down to 1 crew before I smacked his ship with a large shot. He picked Shofixti and tried to win without using the Glory Device. He used gravity whips and got close enough at one point to hit me, but missed. Eventually, inevitably, I got a lucky shot on him. He picked Kohr-Ah; I kept high-powered shots and just blocked all the disks, periodically aiming a confuse ray at him, hitting, and then firing a red shot. I hit with two red shots before he managed to catch me with the disks. I picked Earthling; hitting with three missiles wasn't that hard. Earthling vs. Kohr-Ah battles are interesting but not easy to summarize. He picked ZFP. He didn't try to tongue me (probably wisely) but I hit him with a missile, two zaps, and then another missile I had fired came around in a wide circle to finish him off. That was a surprise.He picked Chmmr. Haha. I picked Kohr-Ah, and screwed up the fight - I only got him down to half his crew and with no zap-sats.

This is where it gets interesting:

I picked Mmrnmhrm, used the Y form; at the end of the round, he managed to accelerate me to ridiculous speed with the tractor beam. He picked Syreen, and I tried to use the high speed to my advantage, but I ran into his ship, stuck against it for a moment, and lost half my crew. Then I lost the other half of my crew by normal means. I used Chmmr to get rid of the over-crewed Syreen, then he pulled Orz against my Chmmr; I repeatedly used the tractor beam while gravity whipping at him until he got a bad start and was basically run over. Then he tried Utwig: I lasered him luckily for half his HP right away, and for the first minute of the fight, he somehow managed to not regain any energy from shield - he almost got down to no energy, but then he recharged it on my zap-sats. I ran him into the planet a few times, and finally won with another laser shot just on the edge of my range. By that time, though, I was down to 1 crew, so he finished me off with Melnorme green shot. I pulled Androsynth against his Melnorme, since he'd already used Orz, and pounded it, dodging the inevitable confusion ray. He killed the Androsynth with his usual Slylandro.

At that point, I only had Ur-Quan, VUX, Druuge, and Ilwrath left, and he had the Slylandro, an Umgah, and an Earthling. I tried to use the Ur-Quan on the Slylandro, but failed - I didn't manage to hit at all, although I did get in a few damage with the fighters. Then I tried VUX, and got a bunch of limpets on him, but he did a lot of damage to me - by the time I got a good shot with the laser, I was almost dead. The Slylandro killed my VUX first, so I was left with Druuge or Ilwrath to kill the limpeted thing. Thing is, Druuge can handle Earthling or Umgah while Ilwrath can't beat Umgah, so I used the Druuge - he tried dodging for a while, but since he could barely turn, I inevitably hit him with a shot, and one shot was all that was necessary. He tried Umgah first, attacking by reversing up next to me, but either he did it badly or I was just prepared for it, and I ended up shooting him as he approached. He continued trying the attack until I killed him with another shot. Then he was left with only Earthling, and I just kept missing - I only landed two of the necessary three shots before he finished off my Druuge. Of course, at that point my remaining ship was an Ilwrath, so the last fight was trivial. :)

That is quite a story. I think in light of this, Vidshot should be employed for all league games.
