Title: Poll: describe the Zoq
Post by: meep-eep on April 03, 2007, 07:17:09 pm
We're having a little revert-war at the Ultronomicon, regarding the description of the Zoq (the green guy).

Which of the poll options would you consider apparent enough to be included in the description of the Zoq?

Are we two allowed to vote?!

Yeah; your opinion counts too.

Plant-like, definitely. It was even my initial catagorization of the Zoq when I first saw them. Plus, there was that whole arguement where the Zoq theatened to "blow a cloud of spores" at the Pik, so I think that pretty much cements it.

To be completely honest (and without meaning to sound insulting), I'm not sure where this "frog-like" description is coming from. ???

Their general shape seems to me that of a frog.

The Zoq Fot Piq are a very weird race. What kind of beings they are, is not told. But they seem like some kind of instruments. I voted for plantlike, that's nearest of it.

It looks like I'm a serious case of excessive imagination...  :P

Perhaps the evolution of the Zoq began with both a plant and a frog. The plant, likely a lilypad, beniftted greatly from the frog, whenever the frog was on it. So as a parasitic means of survival the lillypad devised a way to trap the frog, keeping it attacked to the pad itself. In a countermeasure, the frog adapted and was able to livewitht he pad attached. Successions of evolutionary periods hae formed the Zoq as we see them today.

I think it looks more like a plant than a frog, because it looks more like a mutated alien lily pad.

Definitely more plant-like than anything else. Just like CeeVee, that was what I always thought they looked like.

From the time I first saw it to this point, I have always thought that Zoq is a plant. So I'll say plant-like. I wonder why The Captain never remarks on this like in the case of Supox ("Plants can't be intelligent"), though.

Is it definitely a Zoq? I thought they had forgotten who was who. I know they cant agree on who the Fot is. In anycase I went for the plant option. Although now I think about it, maybe its more fungal - as the other two appear to be

Looks like I only have an evolved Hydralisk at my side. ;)
No wonder. You can't tell how exactly he looks like either.  ;D Kind of a big Hydralisk with legs... maybe.

Good. So the silly frog thing can be removed. And there was much rejoicing.

Hey! It's not silly! It's just a preconception. That's how I viewed them the first time I met them.

Then your preconceptions are silly :P.

Fwiffo: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
The Captain: No, it's not. You are plain, dog ugly.

I'm pretty sure that frog's eyes don't flop around when it makes noise. That ceertainly helped me determine that it was more plantlike; they seem more like seed pods than eyes.

I...I still don't get it. The only thing that's similar between the frog and the Zoq is the colour of both the skin and the eyes.

If you want something that looks a bit like a frog or a toad, try the Dnyarri.

I voted for both.  But I'm thinking animal-like instead of frog like.  The Spores thing does make you think plant, but the story of how they discovered the wheel, fire, and religion starts with "Then one day a Zoq a Fot and a Pik were walking up a steep incline...."  Other than the Supox, most plants cannot walk, so I'm inclined to hink that it's a combo of both plant and animal.  I also think that they're the one that can gain sustence form solar and ambient sources.  Besides if the Zoq is really more plant than animal, it makes the Supox a bit less unique.

Well, it seems that you are talking about their real physiology, their internal morphology as well as the external one.
I was just talking about the general outside look - moving eyes or not, few pixels are different.
