Title: Lance_Vader's Utwig voicepack Post by: Valaggar on May 23, 2007, 12:23:36 pm Lance Meibos (aka Lance_Vader) from Novel Narratives has recently (read: 3 weeks ago) begun work at an Utwig voicepack, and I tried various effects for the recordings.
Here are some samples: Here (http://ceruopran.googlepages.com/Original.zip) is the raw voice. Here (http://ceruopran.googlepages.com/Echo-basedEffects.zip) is the voice with some echo&pitch-scaler-based effects. Here (http://ceruopran.googlepages.com/EQ-basedEffects.zip) is the voice with some equalizing and tempo&pitch decreasing. And here (http://ceruopran.googlepages.com/Echo_AND_EQ-basedEffects.zip) is the voice with both effect sets applied. Why am I posting this here? Why, of course, because I'm looking for some suggestions (especially on the effects part, but also suggestions for Lance)! More exactly, what variant do you prefer?Title: Re: Lance_Vader's Utwig voicepack Post by: AngusThermopyle on May 23, 2007, 03:32:00 pm This sounds really good. I personally like the raw and tempo-enhanced versions. The echoing doesn't do it for me.
But overall, I think its a vast improvement. Title: Re: Lance_Vader's Utwig voicepack Post by: Neonlare on May 23, 2007, 04:06:32 pm I do prefer the one with the tempo enhanced versions (sans echo effect), because it sounds more "millitaristic" and less "ethereal."
One thing though, I don't think he sounds depressed enough when they have a smashed Ultron... :(. When it's repaired, it fits perfectly, a slightly eccentric type :). Lance_Vader said the same. It seems that I should scrap that effect. In fact, even I don't like it anymore. One thing though, I don't think he sounds depressed enough when they have a smashed Ultron... :(. Yesss... I've now halved the equalizer for depressed Utwigs and it sounds much better, but that parts also have to be re-recorded.Title: Re: Lance_Vader's Utwig voicepack Post by: Defender on May 23, 2007, 09:02:11 pm Raw Voice zip file is corrupt "unexpected end of archive". Please fix.

Title: Re: Lance_Vader's Utwig voicepack Post by: Valaggar on May 24, 2007, 10:31:23 am Here (http://www.savefile.com/files/748264) the Raw Voice is.
Or, if you prefer, here (http://www.bjwaymods.net/dl/original429.zip). I've just found out that using only half of the EQ effect for both the depressed and the exuberant Utwig works much better. Result uploaded here (http://www.bjwaymods.net/dl/half_eq238.zip). Title: Re: Lance_Vader's Utwig voicepack Post by: Terrell on May 25, 2007, 12:09:50 am How do I play it? If I like it how do I add it to the game?
Title: Re: Lance_Vader's Utwig voicepack Post by: Valaggar on May 25, 2007, 08:07:06 am Add-on packages:
Inside the directory where The Ur-Quan Masters content is installed, in the content/packages/ directory, there is a directory 'addons/'. In this directory, you need to create a directory 'uqmremix' and place (do not unzip) all the Remix Add-On pack .zip files there. When you specify the command-line option '--addon uqmremix', the .zip files inside the directory content/packages/addons/uqmremix/ will be included in the game and you will hear the new voice(s) instead of the original one(s). However, this is just a sample; the voicepack is not finished. It's not even made an add-on -- Utwig voice files must be, in the .zip, in a comm\utwig folder. And they have to be named utwig000.ogg, utwig001.ogg etc., not Utwig000.ogg, Utwig 042.ogg etc. HOWEVER, YOU CAN PLAY THE FILES USING, for example, Audacity - download here (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/). Utwig capable of a wider range of expression than a constant level of whining (and a less caricatured form of depression). The less severe equaliser effect seems to work reasonably well. However, I think you should consider using the unprocessed voice, as it, in my opinion, conveys emotion better.

Without decreasing the tempo, but still using the other effects, it sounds much better.Title: Re: Lance_Vader's Utwig voicepack Post by: Neonlare on May 26, 2007, 01:46:57 pm So are there any links to the updated versions, with more voice samples? :).
Title: Re: Lance_Vader's Utwig voicepack Post by: Valaggar on May 26, 2007, 03:01:28 pm Here (http://www.bjwaymods.net/dl/lance_vaderutwig247.zip) is what I have until now, zipped as an add-on (with only equalization and pitch decreasing).
Here (http://www.bjwaymods.net/dl/lance_vaderutwignoeffects306.zip) is the same add-on without any effects applied. EDIT: I have tested the add-ons in-game and I think that the equalized voice fits better. What are your opinions? |
