Title: Game Maker for Macintosh?
Post by: Zarnium on July 01, 2007, 01:04:49 am
I want to try to use GameMaker 7.0 from http://www.yoyogames.com/gamemaker/ (http://www.yoyogames.com/gamemaker/) to make a game on my computer, but I have Mac OS X and I have no idea if it's compatible. Is it? I'm guessing it isn't, in which case, are there any other game making programs for macintosh I could use to make Star Control type game?

P.S. Don't think I'm in over my head, I don't expect to make space shooting game overnight  :-\ . I figure that the chances are I won't be able to do it, but I thought I'd try anyway.

Well, I don't know much about Mac..... There is certainly more software choices in that area for Intel Boxes. I would suggest perhaps running the software in a Windows emulator on your Mac.

The only reasonable solution here, is to grab your mac, get a running start, and throw it out of the nearest window.  Then proceed to your local computer hardware store and purchase a PC.

Dear Rocket Scientists,

Modern Apple machines are Intel-based, and are capable of running either Windows or MacOS X (or Linux, or FreeBSD, or whatever you're into)

But don't let that fact get in the way of your making fun of platforms you know nothing about; got any good one-button mouse jokes for us while we're here?

I hear Apples only have one mouse button! Maybe they should be called Suckle instead!!1!!

Wouldn't that make you "0xDEC0DE00"? ;)

I've never seen a decent piece of "game making software" that wasn't, like, an IDE or something. I doubt that this is any exception.

In the spirit of what the thread is actually becoming, I don't see why you're trying to compare Apples and PCs... you might as well compare Apples and oranges. Yeah, an orange doesn't have a CPU. At least an orange is good for you (unlike a PC.) ;D

I would get a pc, but my dad likes macs for some reason. It isn't really my computer, it's my dad's.

But back to my basic question, are there any good game making programs for Macs? Without an emulator?

Oh, and Macintosh mice do have only one button for some bizzarre reason, but you can get non-apple-made mice that have two, thank goodness. Mine is Logitech.

However most people who owns Macs own PPC macs and probably aren't willing to shell out the money just to buy *another* Mac when the Mac they have runs perfectly fine.

Also new Macs now have the Mighty Mouse which is 5 (4?) buttons with a scroll.

Xcode :P

Torque from Garage games, if you want to learn how to program a little. Pretty good game-builder in it.
